Took some time off this afternoon and did a bit of shooting. Shot 5 groups of 3. This load is typically a 1" - 1.5" at 100 yds. load. Using my experimental stoney point shooting sticks set up my groups were about 5". Still too much wiggle. Sorry guys I guess I'll have to keep looking for a steady rest to hunt with the Contender.

Long,

Nice try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Keep at it my friend and you will come up with a solution.

For the most part, for the big game hunting field, I still use and prefer the x-sticks made from 1/2" wood dowel with a webbing yoke and shock cord band. Light weight, sturdy, and not a pain to carry really. Ususally 2 sets, for shorter range ( beyond where I feel comfortable off hand) out to where I know I'm consistantly in the kill zone, I use 1 set. If the range pushes longer but still in my PBR setting, I will put the second set under my grip wrist. I know it sounds like a time consumming pita, but it helps alot, and at that range, time normally ain't an issue.

Get you a Stoney Point Polcat ConvertaPod system. It is bipod with a third leg attached to it to make a tripod. They make two sizes one with height adjustment of 16" to 38" and one 25" to 62". It has a V shape top that you rest the forearm back close to the trigger guard and can adjust the third leg of the tripod to fit your shooting position and can raise it up to sit on your shoulder or knee etc. to brace your hand and arm. With a little practice it is really steady. You can go to U-tube and do a search for handgun hunting and find where Larry Wishume (SP?) is using one on a deer hunt with a Contender. He uses it just as a tripod while kneeling to shoot a deer.

How about tri pod?

A few years back I made a rest for a buddy or mine to use with his Encores and Contenders.

This rest consisted of an old camera tripod and a piece of plastic sheeting 5/8" thick. First I removed the top from the tripod leaving just the center tube sticking up. I then afixed a piece of threaded rod inside of the center tube of the tripod. I then cut a 12" circle (I think it was 12" anyway) out of a piece of 5/8" sheet plastic with a hole drilled in the center so it would slip over the threaded rod. It was then a simple matter of attaching the round piece of plastic to the threaded rod with a wing nut.

This providd for a round mini bench that my budy could rest his Encore or Contender with BR Bipod on to shoot. The whole thing breaks down and slips into his backpack quite easily.

Unfortunately I never did take a photo of the rest.

I believe it was Gary over at Handgun Hunt that made a small rectangular bench out of a piece of plywoof and two Harris Rigid Bipods to use as a portable mini bench. I thought I did have a photo of that mini bench but can not seem to find it.
