Different rifle Manufacture

Mark Bansner is certainly well respected. I have no doubt this is a quality product that would serve the hunter/shooter well. Ed Brown is also a name that is recognised and respected; his 704 action appears to be one that would be a worthy component in a build.

DrMike after looking at the action on the web page it looks like Ed Brown used some Win. and Rem designs to make the action. The Win bolt from the push controlled feed rifles where they dropped the big claw extractor and the Rem tube style action. My M70 is a pcrf action and it feeds very slick. The prices look to be very reasonable also for a custom factory rifle. I'll have to find out who's barrel they use.

Truck Driver - I think Winchester was calling that the CRPF "Controlled Round Push Feed." I've got one in .300 WSM and it feeds those fatty cases slick as all get out! Accurate rifle too.

This looks interesting. Certainly has some good folks involved with it.

Guy thanks for clarifying that for me . (y) I always get abbreviations mixed up and word spellings also. They should have spell check for abbreviations also.

Mark Bansner purchased High Teck 1998 and he sold stock business and his custom rifle business to Trop 2013. Ed Brown sold Trop his 704 rifle.

I like the look of the rifle. Hope they do well. Alot of quality in there for the money.

I saw that on another forum as well, where the companies COO was asking for input. We all begged (some more politely than other) for them to go faster with the twist than usually SAAMI twists, and some of the twist were all over the place depending on cartridge. I think they offered three different twists in the 7mm's alone with slower twist being on the .280 AI and 7mm RM. They also went from a 10 twist in .243 to a 9 twist even though most people (myself included) begged for an 8.

Here is a group buy for you guys to keep your eyes on. Whittaker's gun shop is listening to people who want a semi-custom rifle with faster twists than factory options. Wittaker's will be doing a different chamber ever quarter so make sure to keep your eyes peeled and your requests in.

Wow! After seeing the first response to the thoughtful introduction of the LAW, I remember why I quit going to the Campfire. They would benefit from from lessons in civility from our own moderators.

Yeah, it gets pretty crazy over there. Sometimes I hop on the Campfire, but mostly I don't bother.

If John Barsness and Phil Shoemaker and "Ingwe" weren't posting there.... I don't think I'd visit the place.

That's old Busheler, aka Big Stick, aka Boxer and he needs to be banned again from the forum. The guy has a ton of knowledge and some serious skills with a rifle but he's obviously lived in the Alaskan bush for too long and has lost all common decency towards other people, if he ever had any. He's limited to like one or two posts a week now and I think Rick Bin would ban him again, but keeps getting pressured by his fan club to let him back in. I for one could care less if he's on there or not, but until they actually use Moderators on 24hr he'll be there.

Ive found the Campfire to be too full of drivel to suit my needs.

I find a lot of testosterone on line in general, and mixed with lots of bull xxxx on the fire.

Not my favorite place to visit plus my anti virus goes nuts with all the power adds trying to down load to my computer.

There is a ton of knowledge there and I like the classifieds, so I have no real beef with the campfire. Plus being in the Military all my adult life has taught me to ignore the BS and stupid stuff pretty easily. I do agree with the consensus and think LAW missed an opportunity to carve out a nice little corner of the market by offering rifles that could stabalize some pretty serious long range bullets. I'd love to see a 1:9 .270 and 1:8 .243 Win in a production rifle, the would get my money for sure.

DrMike, I don't like the hassle of picking on each other that goes on over there. Boxer is a big issue which I can not abide by.

Well....... I had Ed Brown build me a 702 Savannah back in 2001 when he first got into building rifles. We chatted about what I was wanting out of it accuracy wise and the cartridge, a 300 WM, even a barrel upgrade to use a Krieger SS 26" barrel. He just so happened to have one but talked me into a 300 Wby.? Now he had three different reamers, the SAMMI spec., a .242 and a .183 one. On his advise and from what he told me, the .242 reamer would allow all factory ammo to be safely fired in the gun and have better accuracy then the SAMMI spec reamer and would allow reloading for pure accuracy.

The gun didn't take very long at all to show up, bought a box of Hornady ammo and got down to testing it. First round laying prone something didn't seem right with the sound of that.... pulled the bolt open to see the primer roll out onto the deck? Wow...... that's not good, looked at the brass and saw a lot of brass flow above the belt that appeared to look like tooling marks? I had cleaned the gun prior to shooting it and looked down the barrel to not see anything and fired it again..... same thing happened! Well, that's just great and got on the phone...... now Ed tells me any factory ammo but Hornady! So I thought I'd go down the the LGS and since this was in Montana, they didn't mind allowing me to test every factory round in the chamber on the shelf to see what would fall out and those that would jam into the lands? Honestly more then half wouldn't just fall back out from the chamber, I wrote down what would and what wouldn't work. So I decided I'd send it off to a gunsmith to have it looked at, Bruce Baer. I figured why have myself tell a guy like Ed Brown what's wrong with this gun?

Well it wasn't prefect, far from it, the bedding wasn't all that great, the chamber had tooling marks above the belt, and I was told it appeared to look like it had been rechambered prior to being a 300 Wby.?

Ok, Bruce said he could turn the barrel back and re-cut the chamber, and re-bed it but said for this amount of money he could build me a complete rifle for the same price. I instructed Bruce to mail Ed Brown his gun back along with the two pieces of brass....... Well I called up Ed Brown after the UPS man delivered the gun back and after speaking to him it was very clear to me to steer clear of doing business with him again. He did refund me all the money in a timely manner so not a loss, just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Mark Bansner and I have known each other for just as long. He built me a Ultimate One on a McBros action in 8.59 Galaxy. Only had one issue, while out hunting I noticed while closing the bolt the firing pin would come down........ interesting I thought? Not good and why I don't like carrying a weapon with a round in the chamber on any firearm I owned. He talked me into fixing myself to no avail and his shop manager said don't let Mark tell you anything but to send the gun back for repair. I had the gun converted to a 3 position safety and Ya, it was expensive.

I had jokingly told Mark I killed a horse with the trigger issue......... he didn't seem concerned that I could have killed someone? What a nightmare that could have been, but honestly Mark is a Standup Guy. His work was always a master piece to look at although for me they never seemed to shoot as good as they looked because of the skinny fluted barrels he liked to use.

For the record I did take a lot of Game with that rifle he built for me, a joy to carry and 500 yard or less shots were common one shot kills.
