E-TIP and Barnes... Similar performance?

That little 100gr ET in your Weatherby would be some fearsome on just about any game animal Eric. Although it wouldn't be my first choice for the heaviest of game, I can't see any trouble with elk or even moose taken with that combo. I like big and heavy slugs at decent speeds, but it is hard to find fault with light and fast if they are constructed tough enough to stand up to the impacts and continue to penetrate.

Oh and Jim and you should put them into some water jugs. I would be very interested in the penetration of them compared to some other lead cored bullets. Great shooting. Seems like a flatliner of a load. Scotty

I have a hunch Eric is going to show up at the range next time with a lot of water jugs.

Eric,

Your 257 Bee is ready to deliver the death sting.

Me too. So far 150 Etip in my 7mag outpenatrated a 160 grain AccuBond in water jugs.

That does sound good Corey. If I find some 150's I may try them. Like I said I haven't messed with them but they look like they'll shoot. Scotty

Using my .25-06 Rem 700, I tested a 100 gr .25 cal Barnes TSX at 3340 fps into the gallon jugs a few years back. Results were impressive:

Penetration was good, recovered it from the 7th jug. That's better than almost every bullet I tested for the .45/70 for comparison. Expanded diameter measured .33" and obviously it lost a couple of petals. Without the petals, it weighed 67 grains. With them, it was a full 100 grains.

I used the TSX on two mule deer. One at about 30 yards into the chest. Showed dramatic tissue destruction indicative of good expansion. The buck collapsed at the shot and appeared to die instantly. Very good results. Another one was shot in the head at about 125 yards. It exited with no indication of expansion. Of course the brain shot resulted in an instant kill anyway.

Just for comparison. JD338 has been trying to get me to test the .257" E-Tip for a while, but I haven't made that happen yet. I strongly suspect it will be a winner!

Regards, Guy
