Elk down

Guy-Great work! That is an awesome pic you getting ready to take your shot.

If I could have shot as well as your young partner when I was his age I would have had a nice 340 bull on my wall. It's awesome that some kids are developing that kind of skill early on.

Congrats to you both.

Guy that is a nice mature cow and I know that you are going to enjoy some fine table fare the rest of this winter and on into the summer .
I am so glad that your young hunting partner had great success as well, thank you for helping him as it is what we have to do to get them into the wonderful sport of hunting and shooting (y).
Your account is excellent as well, along with the photos!

Blessings,
Dan

Congrats on an awesome year Guy... Its great to have all that low fat organic protein in the freezer. It does a person good. I really miss having my freezer full, oh well there is always next year.. (y)
Take care
Ed

BTW, all 4 with an 06... Hmmmm, Grand Ol Cartridge...

That is a great picture Guy. So cool he got it before shooting.

And a big congrats to the young hunter. He made a heckuva good pair of shots. Do you know which bullet he was running?

Either way, sounds like he clobbered the elk. That's what counts.

Dang Guy I'm very happy for you and congrats on a fine Cow Elk. Yep the 165gr bullet was made for the 30-06 and works very well on all game animals. I have used nothing else in mine since they came out. If I could have only one rifle it would be chambered for the 30-06.

congrats Guy! You two are a credit to your sport. Fine shooting, a good season spent in the wild and with family and friends. Don't know how it can get much better. Next year you better use a Magsomthin' (NOT :) !!) CL

No, I don't know what ammo/load he was using. He had his father, and two other adults giving him advice. I just stayed quiet and let him shoot. He did real well.

Thanks all. I know it's "just" a cow elk, but I feel so doggone good about this hunt. It's been 16 years (I think) since my only other elk, the Wyoming 6x6 at about half the range of this shot. I just feel great about taking this elk. What a great hunt too!

Delivered the carcass in two halves today to the meat processor. Field dressed, skinned, no head, and the lower legs cut off, the carcass weighed 248 pounds. He thinks she was likely about 3 years old. Meat is in great shape! Looking forward to the steaks!

You're a lucky man Guy. Delivering a carcass whole is really neat

I imagine you'll get some amazing chow from her and you should be very proud. Elk don't come easy.

For sure, you'll be enjoying fine table fare. Nothing wrong with a cow. An elk is a challenge, whatever the sex and wherever you find them.

Wow, Guy. What a great hunting year you have had. Four big game animals with your own load and a classic cartridge. You certainly have proven the effectiveness of the 165 gr BT. It must be gratifying for you to have pulled all of this together. Congratulations on your successes.

Dan

Thanks all. I truly enjoyed the elk hunt, it was harder than I'd anticipated. Went into the hills several days without even seeing elk, and a couple more times when I found either bulls only, or the herd would be on property where I had no permission to trespass.

Ended up taking her in pretty rugged country, but had enough help with me that it really wasn't a problem to haul her down off the mountainside.

And yes, I agree. It's been one heck of a big game season for me. I don't think I've ever had a season with four animals down: bear, antelope, mule deer & elk. Dang. Feeling very grateful.

Guy

Guy, now that I am in my sixties I feel every animal I take is a blessing & a accomplishment . I have always taken my animals in whole to be processed (y) as we don't have any land that I hunt that is much more than a steep hill & normally those can be climbed by a ATV or truck .
Were you able to locate any of that 165gr. BT?

Blessings,
Dan

congratulations Mr Miner.

I have been invited to ski in Vail in February and then I have to go to Seattle Wash for a day or two on business, before going to Arizona to visit with April and her family. How far is Seattle from you, maybe you and your wife could drive to Seattle and we could have dinner. I would be willing to cover the cost of the dinner and perhaps a hotel room if you and your wife wanted to make a two day trip out of it--just a thought

Best Regards

Jamila

p.s. --actually Mr Miner mum will be paying for our dinner as I put everything on the corp expense account LOL

A very generous offer, and we'd be happy to meet you for dinner if that works out. We'll pay our own way, thanks though. Seattle is about a 2.5 - 3 hour drive, and I make the trip over the mountains every two or three months for business anyway.

Let's try to arrange this via PM please.

Regards, Guy

Got another photo from my friend Mark. Background shows the country we were hunting in. This was no wheatfield elk... About 20 minutes drive from my home though. I like where I live!

Smile is 100% genuine and shows the joy of a successful hunter. I was so glad she was down and dead when we found her. She'd dropped out of sight, and I wasn't sure I'd actually put her down. The rest of the herd walked away, climbing that mountain and leaving, off to the left. It was a relief to see that she'd expired after that shot.

Guy

Congratulations on a freezer full of my favorite mea! Any elk is a trophy! I am pleased to hear how well the BT performed. I think they are a fantastic and under rated hunting bullet.
