Well, I left Denver this morning at 4:00 a.m. headed west for the mountains. I purchased a left over cow tag for the second season. Last weekend was a little grim and didn't see too many elk. The weather / altitude / people seem to take a tole on them.
This morning however was a different story...
Sorry for not narating much of a hunting story... one of those that I gotta say I was lucky on and it turned out good. Pics of the area this a.m. too.
A lot of hard work, but I won't starve this winter. :)

Congratulations on your cow elk. She looks big! You will eat good this winter.
What rifle load did you use?

JD,

That paticular country is why I have the .300RUM. The wind is absolutely brutal up there. Shot her a little over 11,000 ft in altitude. Won't go into much deatail on the hunt... not one of those I'm paticularly proud of, but the first shot was a lot of Retumbo behind a 200gr A-bond with some serious wind blowing. The one that finished it was a 180 B-tip with a lot of Retumbo @ about 40 yds. I didn't spend much time looking for the bullet, but it didn't exit..... entered tight behind the right shoulder.....major internal mess with pretty minor damage on the left shoulder...

One of the few conversations among guys where the term "fat cow" is met with happiness???

Good job on the hunt! Congrats!
