Man, a whole elk in the back of a truck! That is a sight that is just too good to be true! Way to go Gene! Congrats buddy.

What did you take her with?

...that's what that box of rocks is for...

Tenderize before skinning! Now, there's a concept! Well, she was hogtied, so it wasn't that difficult, I guess.

Gene, it don't matter what they say  even if she was snared it will fill the freezer .
Good job on a excellent Elk.

Blessings,
Dan

Adapt and overcome.... I like it!

Gene
Great picture, not a common occurrence in my part of the country. GREAT!!!!!!

...believe me, I've packed out a lot more quarters than I've loaded whole elk, outta over 20 since I moved to WY, I've packed & loaded over 1/2 of 'em by my self, outta 20 shot in N.Id., I only loaded 2 whole, but, here's another one...

That's pretty cool Gene. The easy one's should really be appreciated.

Great picture. That sled idea seems pretty good for relatively flat terrain with a little snow on it.

..."easy" is kinda a "relative" term when it comes to elk, Scotty (this is an old pic, but the elk were in the same place),

I had to sneak out to the base of the hill in the back to get behind 'em & wait till they came over the fence right about where the junipers are. Fence runs @ about 30* back off to the right. Was sneaking between the junipers on my knees when I got busted, had to make sure she was over on my side of the fence, w/ no other elk behind her. Popped her w/ the T3 .300 WSM/ 165gr. GrandSlam, put her down right there, still kicking so I applied the "C d' G" behind her ear (I hate boning necks). It was 17* w/ a 15-20mph wind blowing, so I gutted her, got the sled & skidded her 500yds. down the fence to the rd. by my lonesome.

I had called my buddy, a school teacher, & he snuck out as soon as he could, we got my elk loaded in the back of his truck, I told him there was still a bunch of elk wandering around out there somewheres, so we drove up the rd., didn't see any tracks coming across. He went up & got one right under the cliffs, I took the sled up, helped him gut it, & skidded it down about 400yds. till it got hung up in a tree in the dark. Went back up in the morning & brought it the rest of the way out. That pic on the hill is about 3/4's of the way down. Another .300 WSM, a Weatherby Vanguard w/ 165gr. TTB Bear Claws, I think...
