Factory load development?

Looking at my Nosler 7 guide this morning got me thinking. How do they do it at the factory? Developing loads is a process and I am wondering how they get it all done to make a manual. I asked myself:

How many people are working on this project?

What tools are they using compared to the average guy at the bench?

What optics are they using?

How do they go about cleaning all the barrels?

Where do the test rifles go when they are done with them?

What is their inventory of primers, powder, brass, and bullets look like!!!!!!

Like I said I was just wondering and dreaming about visiting and learning about the process that the factory uses to provide us with data to be safe and successful.

I'd love to be the guy (or one of the guys) that develops the loads...they'd have to force me to go home at the end of the day, lol.

I don't know how the major ammo makers do it, but Sierra has published some interesting info on how their technicians test various handloads - and the thing that struck me the most was the sheer volume of loading, and shooting that these guys do.

Most of us "hobby" loaders dabble in handloading. Those fellows go through an incredible amount of ammo while working up loads for their manuals.

That's one reason I put so much faith in the recommended "accuracy" loads from Nosler, Sierra, and the others. They've tried all the worthwhile combos, many times.

Regards, Guy
