Never had a problem I can't tell the difference. Seconds are cosmetic blemishes that most of us can't see. there is nothing structerley wrong with the bullet.
I too use Nosler 2nds, in fact it's all I use unless they aren't available and I desparately need some bullets. Accuracy has been awesome.
Now obviously all rifles will pick & choose what bullet/bullet weight/powder/primer/COL combo it likes. It just takes some patience and spending the time finding that combo.
Just started getting 2nds myself. Have found them to be extremely accurate in my 223. Maybe you just need to tweak the load a bit more or try another powder.
No! Don't listen to these guys.....2nds are nasty, copper fouling and just plain a waste of money. Plus if you like them you will buy more and that will be less for me. :>)
I have had nothing but good luck with Nosler 2nds in multiple calibers and multiple weights.
Well I received my first order of factory seconds and the profile of the bullet is completely different then what I buy at my local store. The description did not say anything was different except it has a cannelure.
No returns on seconds allowed so I'm stuck with them.
I will buy no more seconds.
I will still use Nosler bullets, I'll just stock up when my local stores have them on sale
I have noticed that the dimensions of the 2nds red tip .308 180 AccuBond varies quite a bit among themselves and compared to off the shelf accubonds. Bearing surface and OAL length of the 2nds is almost always several thou. shorter.
Thanks JD338 and Cariboo those pics give me hope but I have to admit I'm envious. My 257WBY with Speer 120gr BT's and 63gn of IMR4831 had groups very similar but was unhappy with the performance inside 200yds they tended to come apart. This load work for close to 30yrs and about 9 reloadings until the necks started splitting Now I'm back to the drawing board with 110gn Accubonds and they just seem inconsistent. My 300WBY and 180gn accubonds have good days best group was .453 with 83.5gn of IMR7828ssc and then for no apparent reason they are over an 1.5in at 100yds 5 days later. Yesterday was no different over 1.5in but did have several rounds that were touching, again inconsistent. It's starting to bother me but won't keep me from tinkering until I'm satisfied. Thanks again, John
I believe it is the best spot to buy bullets. I agree with all the others about the 2nds. I buy a ton of them, and have never had an issue with getting them to shoot under an 1" out of any of my stock, hunting rifles! They are excellent. You cannot beat the price. You kind of need to buy enough of them in order to make up for the 14.00 shipping, but if you buy about 100.00 in 2nds, you more than overcome the shipping.
My groups are nowhere as pretty as Jim's and others, but for the most part, they are very accurate bullets. Matter of fact, my wife as told me to cease buying bullets as I am running out of space on my bench to stack the boxes!
As for the 110gr Accubonds and 257WBY, it isn't the first time I have heard of some folks struggling a little to make them shoot. Usually it requires a little more tweaking. Anyhow, I hope you make out well with them. It sounds like your 300 is shooting well. I would try 3 or maybe 4, three shot groups and see what you get for an average of them. It should give you a better picture of the overall load. Again, I don't buy many other bullets, as the 2nds are a great deal on premium bullets. Scotty
Is it possible that after using M Pro 7 that I've stripped my barrels clean and they have to be reconditioned?? I started using this 2 years ago. If this is the case how many rounds through the barrel does it take to get your barrel conditioned
I would doubt your barrel is "hurt" by being super clean. I would just check out your load and see how consistent it is overall. Lots of folks get one, 1" group and think it is a 1" load, when in reality, it may shoot a 1" group, then a 1.5" then a 1.25" and then another 1" group. It may not be what most like to see, but in reality, no animal is going to know the difference unless you are shooting ultra long range. Scotty
