What exactly does it mean to be a factory second to Nosler? Will these bullets perform on game? Sould they only be used for plinking? Are they for accurate load development (meaning they are just as accurate and fly the same, but should not be used on game???) :? :?

I probably should let Nosler answer this, but here is my take on the subject.

There are any number of reasons that bullets become "seconds". The most obvious is the presence of a cosmetic flaw. You will be hard to find them on most of these bullets, but Nosler recognizes them. Another reason for them to become seconds is that they are simply over runs. That is Nosler made too many of some offerings and is trying to reduce inventory. Yet another reason is that they were made to sell to another company for loading in factory ammo, but once again, too many were manufactured.

I have shot LOTS of these bullets and they are of very good quality. The accuracy and terminal performance is just like the "firsts". I have shot a mess of varmints with them and several head of big game. I see no reason not to use the seconds instead of the firsts, whatsoever.

The factory second AB's (.257 110 gr) I bought from the pro shop had cannelures whereas the "normal" bullets do not. The whitetail doe I shot with them didn't seem to notice any difference. Hopefully the 7MM AB's I bought will perform the same.

Shiping is expensive on these, huh? I have to order a bunch of them to offset the cost of shipping. Guess that isn't a bad thing though.

Well stated R Flowers, tha'ts exactly what they are. :) We inspect every single bullet that rolls off the line for discoloration or deformity. Deformed bullets get scrapped, stained bullets become seconds, as well as overruns for other bullet companies. The only catch is that the guys in the Pro Shop don't always have every bullet available, seconds become available at the end of the runs so inventory can be sporadic. You can monitor their inventory online at www.shootersproshop.com or by calling them at 800-285-3701. Happy shooting!

All I shoot are seconds for load development, target shooting and hunting.
Same accuracy and performance in a bag instead of a box.

Sometimes the bullets will have a band or cannelure or a different color tip but they are the same bullet.

Awesome! Thanks guys! It will be cool to get some funky colored tips anyways, it will confuse my buddies!

The only reason I can see for using 'Seconds'....is if I was 'too tight'....to buy 'Firsts'!!

Sharpsman,

FYI, this group was shot with factory seconds!

Tough to beat this kind of accuracy and performance at 1/2 price.

Dang JD338

That the best they'll do??

I got a dang ole beat up Sharps what'll best that at 100 yds shootin cast bullets!!  :?

I've shot countless ground squirrels with seconds and well as coyotes, pigs and deer and accuracy has always been as good as firsts, yes I have compared them. Also have weighed them and they are +/- 0ne tenth of a grain, rick

I think you got it backward sharpsman. The only reason to buy firsts, is if the proshop is out of the seconds I need. My favorite rifle is custom, and it only shoots nosler seconds.

Only time I buy "firsts" is if the pro-shop does not have the seconds I need or I need the bullets right now and I buy them locally.

Now that I think about it.... you don't want any seconds in .223, .243, .284 or .308, they are not worth it! Let me buy them to save any of you the trouble

I use em too, but they have to be weight sorted. Some 155 g custom
comp bullets varied by 2 grains.
