My Dad, brother, and I went out to shoot some longer range rocks today. Dad brought his custom 7mm-300 Weatherby, my brother brought his custom 338 Win Mag, and I brought my custom 7mm-300 Weatherby and my Rem 700 300WSM. We started off with a rock at 580 yards. It only took us a few shots each before we were hitting it regularly. Then we moved to a rock at 630 yards. Each of us hit it a few times. Then Dad found what we thought was a white rock that was at 1056 yards. We were feeling pretty confident since the farthest we had ever really shot was between 500 and 600 yards. It took us 10 shots or so each and my brother hit it first. Drilled it dead center. Then I hit it a couple shots later down towards the bottom. We had to talk Dad into shooting a few more since his shoulder was sore but he hit it at the top. We drove down there and turns out it wasnt a rock. It was just an alkali patch (white salt) on the dirt. I ended up digging out one of my 180gr Accubonds out of the dirt and it held up well and expanded pretty good for that long of a shot.
Ill try to remember to take some pics of that later. All in all, we had a blast and impressed ourselves quite a bit. Now we have alot of reloading to do! Hopefully we can get back out there and practice on the 400-600 yard rocks to get ready for hunting season!
