I am accumulating componants for reloading my Kimber. Looks like there are about 6 favorites out there. I am looking for one that is clean burning, and will give good accuracy for a 230 gn bullet.

Thanks,

Long

Long,

I played with a few and settled on W-231. I load 5.4 grs with a 30 gr FMJ.

I use Titegroup for 185's, 700X for 200gr and 230gr. Cleaner than 231 in my experiences. I did shoot 231 for years till I couldn't find it for a bit and someone at the indoor pistol range turned me on to 700X. I've also used Clays for soft loads with good success. When I first started to load for 45ACP I used WST and was very happy with it. Then I accidentally picked up some WSF and brought it home. It worked good too. Did I mention Red Dot yet? Yeah it worked good too but it has a very narrow charge weight window.

In summary, just about everything works for 45 ACP. 8)

Other powders burn cleaner - but since I'm working my way through 8 pounds of Unique a few grains at a time - it's pretty much my favorite powder for the .45, .44, and anything else that my pistols will fire...

Guy,

I used Unique in my Super Blackhawk 44 Mag with 240 gr lead bullets, what a mess!

Not sure about with 230's but for 200gr. Hard Cast SWC's I switched to AA #2. Yes it burns very clean.
