Featherweight Work

Jeff,

I do a fair amount of load development for others using Berger bullets; undoubtedly, they can be made to shoot accurately. However, I don't see them in my future. Sierra Match bullets and Nosler Competitions shoot very accurately, as well, but I'd be loathe to use them at reasonable velocities. They will kill, undoubtedly, but they are just as likely to wound. I don't want to start an argument, but E-Tips, ABs, and even PTs, give me all the accuracy I can use and I don't need to worry whether they will hold up at the velocities generated.

Mike, your battery of FWT's is really making me envious! Those are some very sharp looking rifles, and that 270WSM is my favorite!! I guess I have a soft spot for the 270. Great shooting. Scotty

The 270 WSM hasn't supplanted by deep love for the 7mm WSM, but it is making inroads, to be certain.

I am sure, you probably like the 7WSM for the same reasons I like the 270WSM. Mine is just such a great shooter and it really is very flat. Probably my flattest shooting rifle. Plus, it is just very accurate with everything I have put through it.

This rifles has spent alot of time in my hands and on the side of a ruck. It is still my 30-06 of the safe. It always goes when I am not sure what conditions will be like! Scotty

Scotty,

That is quite a handsome rifle you have there. Of course, one of the things that makes a rifle attractive is accuracy. There are some marks on some of my older rifles that add character. Each scar and each ding is a memory of a time in the wilderness and or a memorable hunt. The rifle that has no "character marks" is one which hasn't been handled enough or carried into the wilds.

Yup, I agree. I still remember a few of the rash marks on a few of my rifles. Scotty

DrMike, I love the 06 I have in the featherweight, I noticed you put a good recoil pad on yours. I did the same to mine. There is just something about the feel of these guns that you have to love!

Actually, that is the standard that comes on the new ones. It is a Pachmayr Decelerator.

You are correct, Greg. The rifles produced in that initial run had some beautiful pieces of wood. The others that I have seen were equally attractive. The present iteration is nice, but the grain was especially comely in the first models.
