I was loading some 7mm PRC with Staball HD and Federal 215's and noticed the purple coating on the inside of the primers. The coating is extremely inconsistent and I have never noticed this in other primers. They seem to shoot just fine and go bang everytime. I didn't know if this inconsistent application of the coating is normal. I haven't shot the PRC loads yet, but used them a few weeks ago in a 7 RM. ES was under 30 fps, though accuracy was nothing to write home about. See pics of the primers. Some are almost solid with the coating while others hardly have any at all. I have 300 primers in this batch & they all look like this. See pic.

I've used a lot of 215 and 215M , I don't remember seeing this before . I remember them being evenly coated . to be honest , I'm not sure what the purple does . I always thought it was sealant , but I don't know for sure .

I just looked at some new Federal 210 and 210M that I bought this year and do NOT have that coating. It's definitely inconsistent whatever it is.
Call or write Federal primers customer service and ask them.

Mine are the same it’s just an indicator of it being a magnum vs the 210’s. It’s just color and has no effect on performance

The purple in 215s and the orange on 210s are a sealant to keep the pellet in place under the anvil.

Seems like the gm215m and gm210m are more evenly/ neatly coated.

If you've ever seen Ginex primers they are the most consistent and perfect looking primers I've seen

I have also noticed some inconsistency on some GM215 primers but not on the GM215M primers.
It hasn't had any affect on speed, consistently or accuracy that I could tell.

Yep, they paint those to identify their magnum primers. I had some from 25 years ago that are purple. I had a box to a box and a half laying around but I gave to my buddy because I bought a few bricks of CCI for $39 during the toilet paper and primer panic.

Completely normal for more years than I care to say.... Way back I called them up to ask and was told nothing to worry about.... That's normal when it is running out before being refilled.
