Bought my 1st 300 H&H in a Ruger No.1 a couple years ago and really liked the cartridge. I been looking for a 300 H&H in a bolt rifle every since that was not a collector rifle. (If Winchester comes out with a new model 70 in 300 H&H I'll buy it in a minute) I also really like sporterized 1917 enfields. Well I was talking to a guy a couple weeks ago about guns and he said he had a 1917 Enfield sporter in 300 H&H for sale with a scope for around $400.00 I could not believe my ears. Have not shot it yet but I think it beautiful. Has a Fajen stock and a older real nice Swift 4x12AO scope on it. Been hunted some but the bore's perfect. I will post some more pictures after I shoot it the 1st time.

Nice rifle I have a .300 H&H as well on a 1917 action. Mine cost me $99 to buy it but a lot more to finish, and I wouldn't say it came out any nicer.

Very nice rifles both! I understand those 1917 Enfields are heck for stout and make a great build!

My dad has one in 30-06, maybe I should try and talk him out of it!! It's not sporterized yet, just had the stock cut off is all. Still open sights.

Nice rifles GUYS ! Very Kool old cartridge the 300 H&H - on my very first Goat hunt (over 40 yrs ago ) I used a 270 Husky and my buddy used a 300 H&H in a pre 64 Win M70 - we got 2 goats - i was only 14 years old ! I think i will get one sometime to match up with the 375 H&H i have !

Cheers RJ

Noslerfan - that's a very nice old rifle! Should be a good hunting rifle, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's still the military barrel on it, just re-chambered to .300 H&H. It was a pretty common conversion for those big 1917 actions.

Best of luck with the ol' beast - it should prove to be a pretty decent shooter! The old military barrel in my 1917 .30-06 seems to like both 165 & 180 grain bullets.

Taylorce1 your 300 H&H is real nice. Guy Miner, your right it still has the military barrel on it. It's been shortened and crowned and like I said, excellent rifling. If it's all you had I'm sure it would last a life time. Hopefully Winchester will came out with a 300 H&H in the new model 70's. They came out with the .264 Win mag and I think a 300 H&H would sell just as well for them. I just about bought a Remington 700 classic in 300 H&H for $800 of gunbroker but somebody beat me to it couple weeks ago.

Good looking rifles I can't wait for the range reports with photos

Blessings,
Dan

Get in line behind me, buddy! :)

Nice rifle! I love the .300 Ooch and Ooch. Probably tied for my favorite cartridge with the .222 Remington.

Noslerfan and taylorce1,

You are showing a couple of fine old rifles chambered in a great cartridge. One could do far worse than to own a 300 H&H.

David, don't want to tell you what to do, but I'd think long and hard about cutting up a 1917 with the metal unaltered. They are becoming more valuable each day.

True enough. A "sporterized" Model of 1917 goes for $250 - $500 usually, while a good military original is getting more and more expensive...

There are a lot of sporterized 1917's available, people have been cutting on them for 60+ years now. If the metal is in original condition, it's worth preserving. New military type stocks are available to restore it completely.

On the other hand, a "sporterized" 1917 is up for grabs. Leave it as is, or customize it to meet your specifications. I've decided to leave mine as a .30-06, but it may well get a new barrel one of these days. It was first "sporterized" by Dad, back in the late 1940's or early 1950's. Since then it's been updated a couple of times, but always remained a .30-06, with the original barrel, albeit cut down.

Regards, Guy

Those are some cool rifles and the actions look like bank vaults! What a horse! Can't wait to hear how it shoots for you. That big 300 is a cool one..

Cool rifles but great cartridge. Always wanted a 300 H&H, such a classic cartridge. Nice rifle indeed.
