After the recent logging that started last fall I finally got a chance to put up a new target stand and get some shooting in. As this was the first chance to do some shooting this year and first try with these loads, I was pleased with the results.

First up was the 308 Ruger Hawkeye Predator with some 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips.

The Ruger All-weather Hawkeye .243 with some 90 grain Accubonds.

Alderman - glad you're back up and shooting!

That 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip is one heck of a hunting bullet for .308 Win or .30-06 rifles!

And 4064 is a classic powder for the .308 as well. Nice work.

Even with all the options out there. A bolt action in 308 win with a 21" barrel could do all my deer and bear hunting with 165 grain bullet like the PT. The VX6 1-6 would be a fine single scope, or a VX3 1.5-5 & a VX3 2.5-8 on QD rings.

The 308 win is a fine cartridge.

Yessir I believe you are right on that, no argument...but where's the fun in one rifle?

When I think of cartridges that outshoot their paper potential, a few come to mind. 5.56 with heavies, 6.5x55, .35 rem and your .308.

My first centerfire was a Rem 788 in .308. It did everything from informal target shooting with cheap surplus, to hammering deer with the old 150 solid base or pretty much any other 150 grain I shot through it to scoring respectably in the early days of F-class before it became a rifle building game that I could not compete with. Nice shooting, and enjoy that rifle.
