Went driving behind my place today and located some of the local antelope.

Six does on the hillside. I was able to show two kids, sons of a friends that were visiting, the first antelope they've ever seen. Their parents aren't hunters so I explained the draw process, in a manner a seven and five year old can understand, and explained about herd management.

I also took them shooting with their father. They enjoyed shooting my single action revolvers with cowboy loads.

A little bit of personal input into the lives of young men and women can sure make a major difference in their lives. Good show, Vince.

Vince taking a youngster into the wild and explaining things to them is always good (y) . I am also glad you are getting to know the lay of the land.

Blessings,
Dan

Found another group of antelope today with a buck in the group.

Never ceases to amaze me how my eyes get "out of focus". Cant see one goat in either of those pics. Heck I was born and raised on the flats....this is hard on my pride   I been lookin for two days.  First time I hunted pronghorn, my "guide" was a fella who shot coyotes from the air for the state of SD. I swear that ranch hand could see a white rump from 3 miles away. took me a week to get 1/2 as good as him. Got to get west of the river....life is outa focus as it is. Officially jealous....nice back yard. :) CL

Happens to all of us, Gene. I like to touch hide before I pull the trigger. Can't miss that way. Plus, if you feel teeth, move to the side; if you feel... Well, you get the idea.

Cloverleaf, Wildgene, Dr Mike

When I was in college a fellow classmate ask me . "How was your blind date? " Terrible ! he showed up in a 1932 Rolls Royce. My friend, "what is so terrible about that?"---He was the original owner )-:

But then I have always been a disappointment. When I was five, I looked down at the crayons I was coloring with and sighed. When I was two this is not what I saw myself doing at five.

Not to worry Vince, I can see them, anyone under 100 can see them LOL But I have a different question. Where are the trees and snow ?

Seriously Vince, you did good. As has been already stated, those youngsters will never forget that day. Well done Vince.

I didn't get around to hunting antelope until a few years ago, 2012. Sure wanted to when I was younger. After all the talk about "long range" shooting for pronghorn, I was mentally prepared for a 300 - 400 yard shot...

Both of my pronghorn have been at about 160 yards. One from standing, one from kneeling. I'm pleased! They sure are cool animals. Love watching them.

Cheyenne, if I have told you once, I have told you a dozen times. Nobody likes a smart---

Dr mike and cloverleaf and wildgene----when I looked at the photo's my first comment, to myself, was, what antelope

Nicely done Vince, getting young people involved early in life is important if we have any chance of defending and protecting out sport in the future

Great stuff Vince! If more folks did this with kids, the world would be a better place!
I will never forget my very first antelope hunt , it was outta Glasgow , Mt. We arrived the nite before the season opened, I flew down from Alaska and met my Dad there, I had swaped a hunt with a fellow there for both of us for him to be able to come to Ak and hunt Caribou. After we got settled in I decided to take Dads truck over to the local gas station and fill er up. The attended, a fella about 65 years old, came out to pump the gas, and noticed the plates on the truck were from Maine, so of course he commented "your a long way from home" I said yup I guess we were. He asked " out to shoot a goat/" I said we were sure hoping to . And then asked if there were any real good ones around. The fellow never blinked and eye as he said "No not really , the local boys around here; shot all the good ones last week............................ lol  [Mt; dry humor]

Europe,

I'm operating on faith (and at my age, that is 'bout right); if Vince says they's antelope in them pictures, they's antelope in 'em. He wouldn't lie to us (would he :? ?).

Cheyenne,

I wish you'd be more courteous toward us ol' duffers. A '32 Rolls took some time to pay for back then. Show a lil' respect, girl!

Great pics guys! Those even I can see! Way to take care of the kids Vince! (sure doc there really are goats in them pictures....I see 'em now...sure I do   )

Only one of mine was taken beyond 150yds. CL

Cheyenne,

I'm out of the trees in the open country.
We get snow here but it's all melted off. Give me twenty minutes and I'm in elk heaven.

I'm located in about the best place a bloke like me could be. I got 40 acres I could afford and I'm only thirty minutes down the highway from town.

I remembered when I was a kid and a few nice folks showing me things. So whenever there's a kid or two around I try to get them involved. Next time these youngsters come up I'll introduce them to horses and cattle. I'm planning on having some preg tested heifers. Not too many just five or so that I'll feed since forty acres will only feed half a cow.
