Working on my first European mount, next is the salt boil and pressure blast after. more likely it will need another boil after. Hopefully comes out pretty good for a first timer. Been lurking on You Tube on how they do it.

You're off to a good start; that's a great head to work with. I must ask, however, will your wife be upset if the dog is presented to her in a European mount?

HaHa Mike. I'll be spending the night in the doghouse if that is the case.

Will look very nice when done I'm sure. Make sure you degrease it good and don't use bleach

do you have plans for the lower jaw ? I thought I'd post a couple pics of mine . I had a guy do a euro mount for me and he also does a picture holder . thought you might be interested . he just notched the bone a little and hot glued a cheap picture frame on . I think I've seen these pic frames at Walmart . it stands up nice .

I'm sorry , I can't get the first two pics to rotate properly .

Jim, All I can say is Wow. That is beautiful craftsmanship. I still got the lower jaw in the big pot of water. I'll take it out and work on it tomorrow. Just cleaned the skull and most of the flesh particles are off, its sitting outside in the grass atm. I need to find a hydrogen peroxide solution to use to whiten the skull. Will regular hydrogen peroxide 3% do? I hear there are stronger ones around 20% that is sold at salons. I will buy several bottles of the regular peroxide and like the skull soak in it for 48 hours and see how it goes.

Don't forget to degrease it that will come back to haunt you

The easiest way I found to clean a skull was with a horse turd. Put the skull in the water (have to keep it at 98 degrees) along with the turd and change half the water once a day. The microbes ate everything.

Method of degreasing the skull? I just used salt and boiling water.

I use white gas, just soak for several days, might be tough with antlers. Dawn dish soap in a warm water bath changing water and adding soap as it gets cloudy for a couple days

Jim, that is a positively brilliant idea. Very neat! Extremely meaningful!

I thought the picture jaw bone was a neat idea too .

I've never done a euro mount , but I saved this how to , hope it helps . Jim
