First range trip of the year

This is going to be long but I had a lot of time and ammo to shoot this morning.

Rifle #1 Winchester 338WM with Minox 3-9. I really like this scope. I did not shoot the greatest group at 100 yards with it. I did shoot a 2.625" group at 186 yards on a steel gong. My main goal for the .338 today was to get a 210gr PT from a jug. I shot at 20 yards and got it in the 6th jug. I will keep playing with this rifle. If I can shoot 1.5" at 100 yards I am calling it good.

Rifle #2 Ruger 22-250. It shot like crap. Last summer I had it shooting well and this winter I played with the action screws. That opened things up. I think I need to get rid of the plastic factory stock. From there, I think it will be a shooter.

Rifle #3 Ruger 30-06 with Leupold 3-9 VXII. I have had issues with this rifle before and really think it was the old Bushnell scope. Today was the first time shooting it with this scope. I used 180 AB with H4350 in Rem brass that I annealed and Win LR primers.

55.5gr=1.250
56.0gr=.818
56.5gr=1.292
57.0gr=1.502

I am going to retry the 56.0 and if it is close to 1" I may play with seating a little and call it good. With old ammo, I was able to smack steel at 186 on 3x with no issues. I like the scope upgrade.

Rifle #4 Ruger 25-06 with Minox 3-15 I like this scope but on 15x I need to really make sure I am lined up for a perfect sight picture. I got this rifle last fall and today was the first time with load development. It has a heavy barrel with a tang safety.

Win 760 with 75gr V-Max
54.0=.932
54.5=1.502
55.0=.419

RL19 with 87gr Sierra
57.0=.599
57.5=.572
58.0=.580

I also tried H4350 with both bullets but it did not shoot as well. This rifle is a shooter and I love it. I am going to load a few more around the best groups for both bullets. I had no pressure signs with my stiffest loads. I really want to shoot out to 300 with this rifle.

It was a great morning with a blue sky and no wind. Now it is time to load up for the weekend.

I also tried out my new 10" gong. I shot it a few times with the 22-250 at 186 and it did not do a thing to it. I then tried the .338 and it put a small dimple in the steal. I have a 4" circle on it and was able to put 3 with the .338 in the middle of it.

Nothing to really say WT, other than great shooting, awesome recovery of the 210 PT and that 25-06 sounds pretty awesome as well.

Your 30-06 load sounds pretty good and if you are smacking the gong's, you are doing a few things really well!

Way to go, glad you were able to get some range time!

The 25-06 a 77? Shoots a nice group. I have a few boxes of those 87 gr Sierras around. Now you made me want to play with them. :mrgreen:

Am very enthused about your .25-06 loads! Lots of velocity and great accuracy.

You have unfortunate woodchucks or other varmints to shoot?

I am very jealous WT! I spent the day putting in a new pasture gate and reworking the pasture fence, digging holes and setting posts.....Wish I had been shooting instead. At least I would have been having fun while getting sun burned. Glad you made it out and you have some fine results to show for your efforts.

Man, I have myself in a fix for range time to check and sight in everything that I messed with this winter and moved scopes around on. Oh well, nice problem to have. I will just start with the two rim fires and work through the pile! Weather is getting nice and I really like to shoot everything and check them all out. For me this is a good problem to have and sight all of them in. in good weather!

Thanks for the kind words. Any thoughts on the 22-250 and getting a new stock or do you think it is something else? I am going to make up some 25-06 rounds for my dad to shoot. He does not get out much and I think he would like hitting the gong with this rifle. I had the day off to turkey hunt but got one on Sunday so I had the day to relax.

Sounds like the stock could be raising a little havoc with it. Maybe look at bedding it and installing some pillars. Easy to do, and only costs about 30.00 for the parts and material. Could shape the rifle pretty quick and take that plastic stock out of the picture.

It's not bad at all. You Tube has a ton of video's and Stocky's has some excellent instructions as well. I would give it a whirl. You can't really mess things up too much anyhow. I would look at Brownell's Steel Bed though. Been using it, instead of Acra Gel and I like it alot. Seems to lay down much smoother and it has stainless steel mixed in it.
