Guys this is Velma, my first centerfire savage. She is a Savage 12 Low Profile in a 243 win. She is topped with a 6-18 mill dot Mark 2. Have had her for a little over a week now and have over 150 rounds through her. SHE SHOOTS LIGHTS OUT! I shot a 4", 4 shot group at 600 yards with her the other day, and my brother was 1 for 2 on an 8" target at 975 yards. ( I got it dialed in with my two shots then let him have at it.)
POP I see why you love the Savages!

Here is the first blood story... Was making the rounds on the farm this morning and saw a yote sitting on a sand dune watching me drive by. I pulled up into a cut in the road so he couldn't see me. Grabbed Velma and my range finder and belly crawled to the top of the cut. The yote was still standing there at 459 yards. Looked at my chart and made the adjustments to the scope. I took a breath and let a 105 A Max fly. I got back on target just in time to see him drop in his tracks!

The first load I tested (44 gr. of RL 15 and 55gr NBT, Nosler brass, 210, 2.637") shot three into a quarter inch, I seemed to of miss placed that target but here is another one I shot the other day. 4 in one group and the fifth just a bit outside.

Here is the 105 A Max load, 46.5 gr RL25, Nosler Brass, Fed 210, 2.780" These are .005" into the lands, the farther away from the lands I go the bigger groups get.

Not sure how to get the pics bigger, if any of you guys that can want to your more than welcome.

You gotta' love a rifle that gives you that sort of performance. How did she get the name "Velma?"

Yep its a shooter for sure!!

Nice rifle and scope combo.

We'll be doing lots of LR shooting....

Congrats on the yote, wished I woulda been there to see it...

Very nice shooting; You can reach out and touch any song dog that hangs up and doesn't want to come in close to a call!!

Awesome rifle. Congrats on the Coyote. I know what you mean about Savages, I have one in a 22-250 Stainless barrel and action in a synthetic stock. It has a 26" barrel and man, it shoots really well. I bought it for a steal about 16 years ago and it is still my favorite varmint rifle. Scotty

Darned nice shootin'! I haven't tried any of the A-Max's
because Hornady suggests they should be shot in at
least a 1 in 8 barrel.

Really fell in love with the VLP's and now have three:
.25-06 (discontinued)
.243
.22-250

Ascetically, the golf club bolt handle took some getting used to,
but now like it on the .243 & '06. The left-handed .22-250 has
a "normal" bolt handle.

The .25-06 is "broke in" and has gotten 5/16" groups with the
85gr Nos BTBT. Just got the other two this fall and haven't been
able to work enough with them to find what they like. They've
put a few doubles through the same hole, but aren't yet
consistent.

Savage has gotten this Remington 'ol boy's loyalty. Their normal
out of box accuracy along with fantastic customer support is the
way it should be.

Out of curiosity, were you able to attain these great groups with virgin
brass, or was it fire-formed brass?

Virgin brass. It appears that I need to do a little tweaking now that it is fire-formed.

Took my wife's MD 10 plain jane .308 accutrigger to an informal silhouette match with some J4 155 CCBTHPs and made a lot of the wannabe snipers jealous with their space rifles! If I wasn't in love with my Mauser .280 that I built up (the Death Ray) I'd get one myself. If I have need for a varmint rifle in my life, it will be a Savage! Those things definately outshoot their price tag!

The four yotes that I have smoked with it sure thought it shot great for the money!

Well I was four for four with it this morning on yotes out to 450 yards with the 55 BT. Four shots four dogs.... I LOVE THIS GUN! I'll get some pics up this after noon.

Four for four is some fine shooting. There'll be a few more fawns survive in the spring!
