My brother and I went on our first Wyoming antelope hunt this year and had a blast! We stayed in Buffalo which is a very nice town with friendly people. The butcher we had talked to over the phone while planning the hunt wound up being right across the street from the motel. They make excellent beer sticks and jalapeno sausage btw :)
We had 3 tags each and filled them all.I didn't have time to work up a load for my Sako so was hunting with federal 130gr Nosler BT's.The first doe I shot was about 80 yards away and it was a double lung shot. The BT exited and she went straight down like she was pole axed. The next one was my buck.He also was around 80 yards away, again this was a double lung shot and exit.he took about 4 steps and made a half circle and dropped. The last doe was 50ish yards away and running flat out up a small hill.I didnt lead her far enough and shot her through the pelvis. The BT smashed the pelvis and exited, her momentum took her about 4 more steps then she fell down and slid about 20 yards down the hill.
Beautiful state, great people,we could not have asked for a better trip! This will be a yearly hunt for us from now on and can't wait till next year !

Gotta love that antelope hunting!! They are the Rodney Dangerfeild of the big game world. Cant help it, they fascinate me...And I love the country they live in, (and the folks too). sounds like you had a great time. Private land? Nice buck!!! What did the three tag lisc. cost ya? Thanks for posting CL

Cloverleaf,

We hunted on private property that is open to public access.Wyoming has a program called PLPW (Private Land Public Wildlife). The state works with property owners to set aside land for public access. On Wyoming's game and fish web page they have the rules and maps of where the land is in the state. Some land is open for some game and not for others and there are rules about camping parking and driving on the land(each area has differant rules depending on the owner I would assume). All the land should be clearly marked to make sure you don't get on property you shouldn't be.All the land we hunted on was.

Nonresident buck licence was $226
Nonresident doe/fawn licence was $29 and you could get up to 4
We also donated some money to the PLPW program and search and rescue

Just want to say again Wyoming is a beautiful state and all the people we met were very friendly.Really made for a great trip!
