All right guys, I need to fit my 7 wsm with a scope for intermediate range shots. I'm looking for feed back on fixed 4 powers. Price needs to be under $400.

Why limit yourself? A 3-9 will allow you to make the longer shots and be perfect for intermediate range as well and you can get a lot of scope for under $400.

A zeiss conquest 3x9x40 will cost you under 400.00. Glass that beats the Leupold vxIII
You can find good prices on gunbroker.com and at auctionarms.com.
Auctionarms.com is the official auction site of the NRA so that would make any purchase or sale on that site much cooler 8) but gunbroker has alot of stuff.

For my 270 I have a 3x9-40 pentax gameseeker that has a lifetime worry free warranty, and the scope will let you see way past legal shooting limits and you also have the pp recticle which really helps.

my fixed power scopes are older models. the best is the weaver k4. leupold still has the fixed 4x33 and the 6x36 and 6x42. the vxIII 6x42 would be my choice for your 7 wsm.

........................Why limit yourself to just a 4x scope, when you can get a real nice 3x9 for the same money??.............The 7 WSM is a great long range shooter and a variable with some greater magnification, will be better, JUST in case your only shot opportunity is beyond 350-400 yards given a particular circumstance that you could not foresee..........4x will work of course, but why limit yourself!............Go with at least a 2.5x8!

I just put a Burris 4x on my CZ 452 Lux. Eye relief is fantastic. Price was on sale at a bit under 150.00 But it does not have near the glass as my Conquest scopes. This is the 2nd fixed power scope I have had and while it will be ok for squirrels etc I would want a lot better glass for deer etc...
From my own experience I would much rather have even a used scope with real good glass than a new one with less. Once you have had a scope with great glass there is no going back.

The Leupold VX III 2.5x8 is one of the best all around scopes.

I respectfully disagree, I sure wouldn't want to look through 10X at 100 yards or in while hunting. In fact, I always leave my 3-9 or above power scopes set on the lowest power so I can dial up if needed but not have a problem fining an animal and kill zone in my scope at close range. If I'm watching an open area, I may set it to 5x.

.................A fixed 10x on a 7 wsm?? You gotta be kidding!....+2 in the respectful disagreement dept. with that!!

A 10X? Limited FOV at the shorter to moderate ranges, which greatly reduces speed in acquiring the target. Certainly not the best magnification for all-round hunting. What happens when speed is necessary and critical on game that comes as a surprise at say 30 to 100 yards? A 10X?.. ........

For strictly the smaller varmits and some longer range paper punching,,, OK fine!!

For under $400 you could go onto SWFA and get a 1.25-4x20 leupold European scope. And that same price also goes for the 3-9x40 european scope also.

There is a time and a place for a striaght 4x. There is less to think about, you just sight and shoot. No worrying about if you have the scope on the right power, because there is only one. My mother has a straight 4x leupold on her .270 Win. She says "If it too far for me to see to it well it that scope, it's too far for me to shoot at". And for her, that's pretty true. If you think the rifle might be loaned, or used by a teenager, a straight power might be a good idea. But for myself, I like a variable, and it all depends on what I will be doing with the rifle.

But If you want a fixed power, I'd look at the Leupold fixed line, something in the 4x range.

PS. I think some of the rating on that chart are a little off.....
