For those with Quickloads?

Can you alter a cartridge dimension to get approximate case capacity? Does quickloads have the 6.5x68 or 8x68S cartridges? I'm thinking about doing a wildcat on one of these cases with .015" taper and 35 degree shoulder but it would be nice to know the approximate case capacity. The .257 Banshee built by a guy here in Nampa, ID is suppose to be really close if not exceed the 257STW but I haven't found any load data to compare.

QL has the 6.5X68 and the 8X68S. Est. case capacity for the 6.5X68 is 86 g. H20. Est case capacity for the 8X68S is 86. You can use QuickDesign to develop loads. I've been looking at building a rifle chambered in 8X68S for about six months. It is on the back burner. It will duplicate my 325WSM, and yes, it would be built on a Winchester action.

Mike,

Does it let you alter the dimensions and calculate the capacity of the altered case? They have a crazy amount of taper and under a 15 degree shoulder so they can be improved greatly.

QuickDesign permits the changes. QL would require you to measure case capacity rather than estimating case capacity.

Digging up an old thread.

For whatever reason, I have found myself thinking about a rifle in this chambering. Doc, from what digging I've done online, it looks like the rim diameter is the same as a standard H&H case? So no bolt modifications need to be done, assuming an action with a magnum boltface? What about feed rails? Will it fit in a standard magnum (7RM/.300WM) magazine? All the drawings I've seen have been in metric, and us Americans don't do the metric system so well.

See if this helps, Kurt.

The bolt face is a odd ball. You'd have to open a .473 (.308) bolt face to .512 and install a Sako or M-16 extractor. You could sleeve down a magnum as well. It might be just as easy to see if PTG would make a bolt with the correct diameter and axe the Remington.

That 8x68 looks like a pretty cool cat.. Should sit between a 325 and 8RM in ballistics?

If the 6.5 or 8x68 is improved it's a lot like a 8mm Rem. Mag. It would also be quite similar to the .375 Ruger.

Hmmm, maybe a Mauser for the Euro market might be easier? The 8x68s is calling my name...

Man, you could do a lot of improvement to that case. A straight wall and 40* shoulder would make it interesting for sure.

I was just looking at that pic too and thought, "AI candidate for certain".

Close to 20 years ago a guy named Rich Kaiyser built a .257 banshee based on a improved 6.5x68. It was equal to or slightly faster then a .257 stw. There was a write up in Precision Shooting magazine. He was from Nampa Idaho and used it to shoot rock chucks. I was a subscriber but can't find the issue it was in for some reason.
