...on the mountain this morning...

...I can almost hear the bulls starting up from here...

...I think my neck is starting to swell...

Saw the forecast for 1-3" in the high mountains and knew they were not speaking go the Adirondack Mts of NY... ;-). I am hoping to get some back pain issues resolved so that I can hunt elk in Montana this fall..

Are you raking trees yet? Spraying yourself? Picking fights with other males? Oh, oh, TMI.

Shucks, I'm doing that most mornings. Well, at least the grunting as I search for the coffee cup.

Buddy of mine has been out bear hunting a lot already this month. He's hearing the first few elk bugles the past few days...

It's starting to feel like HUNTING SEASON!

I hope they hold off until about the 12th of September & then let it break loose for opening day !!

Blessings,
Dan

This is the time of the year where I can't sleep cause I dream about them danged elk!

I'm starting to bang my head into things. Happens every year about now  I did a rub tree and wallow search a week ago in one of my favorite patches. Nothing then, although plenty of evidence the elk are there. Like the one my wife saw in the thick stuff. Need to hear those bugles! Think I'll go take a mud bath....

Be the elk! That's the secret. Covered in elk urine, my wife often changes the locks on the doors while I'm out hunting. I wonder if she is telling me something?

Yes, at one time Whitetail was king in my books and I still love hunting them. But for about the last 5 years Elk as definitely taken over as the animal I most enjoy going after. I would still like to get a real good Mulie before I throw in the towel .
First time in my life that I am going to spend the whole season trying to hunt them critters 8).
I do have to come home for a day to help with a Wedding here at the church. A young lady that works with us here is getting married and she calls me her work Dad!!
Investing in the younger generation is a responsibility that I take very seriously.

Blessings,
Dan

Yep it's that time of the year, The Fever hit's us and we go crazy. Hard to deal with a the emotions.

I have been feeling under the weather but I just had to get out as Season opened up Saturday. I drove up planning on spending a couple days and since the weather was supposed to remain clear I figured I would just sleep out under the stars and not even take my tent. Well it was clear but it got down to 20 degrees F out. I had ice on the sleeping bag in the morning when I got up. Climbed clear up to the top of a ridge and really started feeling like crap again and was coughing. Pretty hard to be sneaky when you are losing a lung on the mountain. Still had a great morning and loved being out. Did not hear any elk but did hear some wolves howling which was pretty neat. Must take tent next time. Helps keep the frost off!

That's the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness in the background that you can see.

Though I have never had the opportunity to hunt Elk and probably never will I will never forget riding down a back road in NY state and hearing a Bull Elk Bugle. Ya he was on a private reserve but it was a magnificent experience and a beautiful site to see.

Good move, David. Sleeping under the stars is an experience. Hearing wolves howl in their native element is exciting. Hearing the elk bugle does get the hunting juices flowing. I haven't heard elk yet, but we did encounter a few this past week.

Very nice pictures David. Looks like a nice campsite to me buddy!

Yeah, but lugging that wheel for a fire ring and the grate all that distance must have been tiring.
