Not sure if this qualifies as "defensive" since these cops absolutely took the fight to the bad guy. This is just down the road from my town a ways, and I've worked with the Moses Lake PD guys & Grant County deputies in the past:

Five local officers receive state's highest honor for bravery
Four members of the Moses Lake Police Department and a GCSO Detective will receive the Washington State Medal of Honor for Exceptionally Meritorious Conduct in the Performance of Duty, related to their actions June 17th, 2023 during an active shooter incident at the Gorge Campground.
Detective Edgar Salazar, Detective Sergeant Kyle McCain, Detective Corporal Omar Ramirez, Officer Curt Ledeboer and GCSO Detective Korey Judkins will be honored during a ceremony on May 3rd in Olympia.
On June 17th of last year, the five detectives were working undercover at a concert at the Gorge Amphitheater when a man began shooting in the campground, killing two women and injuring three others. The man then took a captive female with him out into a field, where he continued to abuse her.
Many officers responded immediately to the area. Due to their undercover assignment, the five detectives had no ballistic vests or any other protective police equipment, and were not armed with their standard hand guns, only with a small backup pistol. Despite these disadvantages, these detectives closed the distance on the shooter without hesitation, crossing approximately 150 yards of grassy terain with no cover, while the suspect continued to fire in their direction.
The detectives were able to close to a distance of approximately 65 yards, and Det. Salazar fired his pistol once, striking the suspect and incapacitating him. The detectives and other officers on the scene were then able to take the suspect into custody and render aid to the female victim, who the suspect had shot twice.
The courage, skill and teamwork of these officers was exemplary, and we couldn't be prouder of them. (Not pictured is Det. Judkins). And, so we say it before they do, both Det. Salazar and Det. Cpl. Ramirez served in the Marine Corps.
This incident is being investigated by the North Central Washington Special Investigations Unit.
