Good article about the LRAB .284-168gr

There isn't any QL yet SD. All I can say is they are very slick. Not sure if it is the decreased bearing surface allowing more speed, but 3100 with a 7RM and just about any 160 hasn't been real tough running slow powders like Retumbo and RL25. Those same loads with the 168's seem to run about the same. Not saying your not getting into the 60K PSI range but I can't see psi indicators like I have as quickly with regular full shanked bullets.

Hopefully the newest edition of QL has them in there. I'm as interested as you are. Add RL33 into the mix and it changes it up even further.

Remington man
Will be trying the 168 soon from a few different 7 mags and an STW.
Hopefully I can get them to shoot

I would be extremely interested in your progress with the STW.good luck with them all.

I have a pile of 150 LRABs lying around here. I shot them out of two 7 Rems.... with Retumbo, RE25, and H1000. I blew primers with the Retumbo load at 3150. H1000 would do about the same... sanely. I'm going to run them in the 7/08. At 2850 They're only 100-150fps behind most 7 Rem Mags running my favorite 162 Amax at 2950-3050)... and, externally they give up nothing.

To me... 150 grains of good bullet.... clocking 2800-2900.... with a .600+ BC.... for +/- 50 grains of powder... seems like a lot of wins.

I'm not crying wolf..... but stuff still smells funny with the velocities to me. And, you all know I'm willing to lean a little on a powder scale.

I will admit to eating a little crow on the claimed BCs though.... I didn't think they'd hold up.... but they seem to. I shoot the same dope as a 162 Amax with the 150s.... though the 150s get a 100fps head start.

I am with you SD. For sure, but I have seen it out of two rifles so far. I went from the 150 BT and PT in the 270WSM running 3100 pretty easily, to getting nearly 3150 out of the 150ABLR with what seems like less pressure. Same thing with the 7mm WSM. Running 3100 with the 160AB but a top load, to over 3100 (168 ABLR) and what seems to be, by all indicators, less PSI and a little more speed. Not sure, I will eat crow as well, but they are shooting, I have multiple loads over the brass with no loss of primer pockets.. It'll be a little nicer when we get some QL specs. While not always perfect, it is a good comparison.

Your right about the 150 ABLR in the 7-08. I am looking to give them a shot in my son's 7x57 Mauser with RL17. Thinking it'll run just about the same as the 140 AB.. Maybe not, but it'll be fun to give it a try.

This is a QL projection for the 150 Sierra, seems to fall in line what I am seeing...

Creedmore,

Good luck to the both of you.
What is your load for the 168 gr ABLR in the 280AI?

Creedmoor and Howard,

Best of luck to each of you. Score big, gentlemen.

Thanks, fellas. We didn't connect, but one of our buddies smoked an auodad with his 6.5x47 Lapua at a record breaking distance of 20 yards, with a 130gr Berger VLDH!

That 168 ABLR in my 280AI is running 59.0 gr H4831 (not SC) at 2950fps. Next time . . . :)

We had a ball.
This was also the last weekend of late dove season.
Put the rifles away and drug out the Benellis .
The doves were none too happy I can tell ya that.

Thanks Creedmore. That is a very respectable velocity. I am going to start my load development this spring. I am hoping to get 2900-2950 with my go to powder, RL 22.

I am thinking you'll do that pretty easily in your Ackley Jim. I know you run about the same with the 160AB's so I am betting you'll so the same or better with the 168's. The trick is if they shoot in your rifle. They are a little more fussy than I am used to with the regular AB's, but I think after tuning they will come around.

I have been thinking the same thing with reguards to velocity...

I can barely seem to get 3000 with 160s from a 7 mag using rl22-retumbo. Worse part is they never seem to shoot good for me at that upper end anyway either. Its always around the 2875-2950 mark.

Ill definately be reporting my findings anyway.
