Good Friends When you Need Them

I use my tractor for a lot of work around here. Today we finished up the aqua gate project which will increase the water level in the marsh for the geese, mallards and wood ducks.
I decided to head over to the other side of the property to make sure there weren't any trees down from a recent storm . Got to my blind and decided to cut a short trail with the flail mower to the edge of the huckleberry swamp, funneling the deer to an easy access point. Backing in 3 times and mulching brush I was done. Then I decided to take out a couple more feet and things went south. Called a couple buddies.1 tractor, a lot of chain, a couple of binders and 6 hours later we were back in the barn.
I am very thankful for my great friends!

Wow, what a situation. I am glad you could get the help when you needed it. I have been in similar situations where I needed friends with tractors to rescue my tractor. It is nice to know you can count on people when you really need them. I am glad no one was hurt, or any equipment was damaged. Dan

Yup, that's what got me. The swamp is a bog. It's the vegetation root system that holds it all together. If you break through, you are going to have a problem.
My buddy came over with extra chain and binders. By rolling the bucket and taking up the slack in the chains, the hydraulics inched the tractor out of the muck.
Tractor is now washed and in the barn, ready for the next adventure.

We’ve just such a spot on the south end of our property. Didn’t put cows down there this spring because the fence needs some work, and we didn[t get the numbers of feeders we thought we would. Been thinking it might be dry enough to get in there with the brush hog on back of the Kubota. Showed Catherine the picture of your tractor, she smiled and said I’m not too old for handwork!

Once you break through the Matt root system, your sunk. When your tires spin, it tears out the matted roofs and it's game over.
BTW, I'm not going to be taking the tractor in there again!

Very similar to our muskeg.

You're fine as long as you stay on top of the thin root mat; but once you spin through it (usually those who have the mud tires on their atv's/utv's) then they're stuck and need to winch or be pulled out.
A trick I learned on the 4x4 atv's(Which won't work in a utv, or a tractor! LOL), is as soon as you start to spin, you jump off the machine and keep the throttle on just enough to keep the machine moving without spinning the tires, pushing alongside, and the atv will usually pop back up onto the mat and you can get back on and keep going. Works about 95% of the time, if you get off quick enough to make it work. A less aggressive atv tire helps too as it won't cut through the root mat so quick.

I knew a guy that was fairly drunk at the time that insisted loudly that as long as his wheels were spinning, he wasn't stuck! He was wrong. When he was done he wasn't to the top of a rear tractor tire stuck, but that was only because his pickup was sitting on the frame and couldn't go any lower.
