Went to the hills this weekend to do a bit of bear hunting with my two brothers. Found this guy first night out. This is the second biggest bear I have seen this season. We spotted him and a blonde sow at about 850 yards. A quick look through the glass said we needed to get a bit closer. We got it down to 600 yards and through the 45x spotting scope we could see he was big, and wanting that sow. We got set up and I dialed up the edge, and waited for the right shot. He was quartering slightly towards me. I put the dot in the point of his shoulder and sent a 225 AB his way. I missed by 3" and double lunged him. He didn't make it 50 yards.

My brother and I couldn't drag him so we just rolled him down the mountian. I skinned him and then drug him across the aptley named Bear Creek. It took all three of us to get him across the knee deep creek. We didn't get back to camp till after 11:00 P.M.

Here he is skinned out with the bear sterilizer (formerly known as the 338 edge). He squared 6' 5" and his skull measured 19 11/16"

The case is 3.770" and there is about an inch of front paw on either side.

He was not an old bear by any means, teeth still have lots of point to them.

My future little hunting partner.

The 338 edge is a 300 RUM necked up to .338". Has a bit more case capacity than a 338 RUM.

Way to go Jake. Thats a bruiser of an Oregon blacky alright...

So glad the EDGE finally got the chance to wack a bear, it was really needing that :) I missed one the first year I had it built at 800 and never did get another oppurtunity on bears with it. I was really wanting to see a bear just crumple with it. To bad my knee/foot wasn't quite up to par or I woulda been there to see it too!!

Filmjunkie- 338 EDGE or 338-300 RUM is a 300 RUM necked up to 338 with no other changes. Usually built with HART 30" bbls to shoot the 300g SMK with a BC of .770 at 2850fps. I had this one built with a 28" to save a few ounces and I shot the 300g SMK at 2825fps. Its killed a few deer and elk out to 915 yards before I sold it to Jmad a few months ago. Its an accurate, semi-lightweight LR hammer thats for sure.

Awesome shooting Jake! The mighty Edge has spoken again. Great job and what a hog of a bear! Scotty

Thanks fellas. According to a few friends of mine he should make the Oregon books! 100-120 ish they thought.

Jake,

That is a really big bear, congratulations buddy!
Glad the 338 Edge with the 225 gr AB worked out for you.

BTW, don't blink. Your lil' hunting buddy will be up in the hills filling her bear tag before you know it. They grow up way to fast!

Congrats on the bruin! Looks like a dandy bear for sure. Are you going to be around next Tuesday? Looks like I'm coming your way. Will bring the 225 grain Accubonds if you still want them.

Thanks, the last bear I shot (my first) I could pick up with one hand so this was a big upgrade!

just give me a call. If I'm not around i might be able to get my wife to meet ya. I should be around though.

Thanks guys.

I'm not going to lie, the other day she was out riding her little quad around the porch. I had just got done lighting the BBQ with a rifle shaped lighter (best ever), and set it down. She walked over grabbed it stuck it in her pocket and got on her quad and took off. After three weeks of watching me roll into and out of bear camp with my rifle on my back, she was pretty sure that that was how you were suposed to ride a quad.

I was so proud!

Thats awesome Jake! Little things like that really warm a pops heart! Scotty
