Went to the hills this weekend to do a bit of bear hunting with my two brothers. Found this guy first night out. This is the second biggest bear I have seen this season. We spotted him and a blonde sow at about 850 yards. A quick look through the glass said we needed to get a bit closer. We got it down to 600 yards and through the 45x spotting scope we could see he was big, and wanting that sow. We got set up and I dialed up the edge, and waited for the right shot. He was quartering slightly towards me. I put the dot in the point of his shoulder and sent a 225 AB his way. I missed by 3" and double lunged him. He didn't make it 50 yards.
My brother and I couldn't drag him so we just rolled him down the mountian. I skinned him and then drug him across the aptley named Bear Creek. It took all three of us to get him across the knee deep creek. We didn't get back to camp till after 11:00 P.M.
Here he is skinned out with the bear sterilizer (formerly known as the 338 edge). He squared 6' 5" and his skull measured 19 11/16"
The case is 3.770" and there is about an inch of front paw on either side.
He was not an old bear by any means, teeth still have lots of point to them.
My future little hunting partner.
