Its been a rough and tough hunting season for my girlfriend Dusti and my little sister Abby. Dusti passed on a really nice whitetail that we rattled in a couple weeks ago. She missed a buck on Wednesday afternoon due to the wind. We drove up to the mountains Wednesday morning and when we got home, we found out that a 135mph gust of wind was clocked 5 miles south of where we were trying to hunt.

We found Dusti a buck yesterday morning though. We had watched this buck Thanksgiving morning and evening and my buddy who is Dusti's cousin was hunting him. But Dusti laid him down yesterday morning! We were driving out to where I wanted to park and we spotted him off the road out in the pasture with a doe. We kept driving down the road and parked about 400 yards down from him so we didnt spook him. We crawled through the fence and put the stalk on him. I got Dusti within 100 yards and when the buck and doe stood up, she put one through his last rib on the on side and it exited right behind the offside shoulder. She was shooting her Ruger Hawkeye 270 Win and 130gr Fusions. The buck went 30 yards and piled up.

Abby has had a couple opportunities at good bucks this year and she has either missed or it just plain didnt work out once we got her set up. But I called some friends of mine and got permission for my Dad to take Abby out on their land across the road from where we have been hunting. All the deer have been feeding on their land so I figured the best chance for Abby was on their place.

Im not quite sure of the details since I wasnt with them this morning but Abby blasted a buck and my Dad shot a sick doe. Abby was shooting her Marlin XS7Y 7mm-08 with 140 Accubonds and my Dad was shooting his 25-06 with Ballistic Tips

When my Dad was gutting his doe, he discovered that it had a abcess on the inside of its rib cage between its front legs. It was the nastiest thing I have ever seen. One of her lungs was really hard and tough on the outside where it is against the ribs. It even had the imprint of the ribs on it. Our buddy Dave took a knife and cut that lung on it and yellow liquid ran out of the lung. It smelled horrible too. Im not sure what is going on with it but Dad called or is going to call the game warden to see what we should do with it.

I forgot to add this.

Dusti took this video on Wednesday morning to show how hard the wind was blowing. I stopped my truck in the road, turned it off, put it in neutral, and let my foot off the brake. Within 200 yards the truck was being pushed 22mph by the wind!

Congratulations to Dusti and to Abbey. Each has done very well. I really like Dusti's rifle. The stock has some pizzaz.

Congratulations to both of them and yes that is one snazzy looking stock on the 270 :)

Thanks guys. As for the stock, I just taped off the whole thing except the grip panels and sprayed it with white primer then with flourescent pink marking spray paint and matte clear over the top. She loves it! Now Abby wants hers "fancied" up!

Very nice job. That stock has some "pop" to it my friend!!  Now you know the wind doesn't blow over there, much!
