No pics but my wife's grandson shot ihis first deer yesterday afternoon. It was a 3 inch spike, blacktail deer that weighed 188 pounds (corn fed). Killed it with his .280 Rem A-Bolt, DRT, at about 60 yards, one shot to the heart with 140 grain CT Silvertip handload. Talk about a happy young 16 year old boy!

He had just bought the rifle from me about two days before and I threw in a scope for him. He earned the money driving the rasberry farm truck in the fields this summer.

Thanks Jim, I have been taking him to the range and he is really enthusiastic and a good kid. I am really happy for him.

That is awesome, congratulations to your grandson.

Congratulations to your grandson, Charlie. I know that I'm perhaps more satisfied than the young men and women I take afield when they tag game. Way to go!

Me too, DrMike, another life long hunter is born! Makes me feel good to have been part of it.

Congratulations to both you and the grandson!

Special place in my heart for the 280.
Excellent choice for a first rifle!
Hope it serves him well for many years to come and fills many a tag!

Thanks Howard, I don't think that he knows much about what a .280 Rem is but he shot the deer with a 140 Silvertip handload at 3000 fps. The deer folded like a cheap suit and a hunter was born! I had taken him to the range with that rifle and some other one's of mine and he had shot it before and knew that it shoots sub-MOA groups.

Thanks, guys. He shows some promise as a shooter. He took right to it when I took him to the range but he has been shooting other stuff for a couple years.

I sure is gratifying to see young people get there first animal, even the older first timers, just enjoy others excitement.

Congrats to that feller Charlie. You taught him well. I imagine he is hooked now. Scotty

I think that he is. He also hunts waterfowl and seems really into it as I was at that age. All I did was make the means available, he did the rest himself by picking a million rasberries this summer to buy the rifle.

I am just the enabler.
