Grizzly Draw

Those are some nice actions they advertise. What is our plans for the Brenneke? It seems like they are nice company, seem pretty reasonable in price also.

Can't wait to hear of your scouting results. That is going to be an excellent trip for you Mike. I wished I could be a packer for your trip. Scotty

Scotty,

The Borden actions are very nice indeed, and the boys can make some amazingly accurate rifles. I've shot quite a few that shoot 0.25 inch or less in a variety of calibres. Of course, the benchrest crowd already knows they are great actions. The shop has recently begun to use the Defiance action (http://www.defiancemachine.com/). Moreover, Defiance will be producing a controlled-round action this Fall. However, I'm focused on using a Winchester action since I have a Featherweight stock to use. I have not yet shot any of the rifles built on the Defiance action, but they do look like shooters.

Come on up, Scotty. We'll find a way to take you along. The season runs from August 15 through November 15. I'll undoubtedly be spending quite a bit of time driving out to the area and looking for bears.

I received 200 pieces of 9.3 X 64 brass this week. I also order a new Winchester so I could scavenge the action to build the rifle. A Pac-Nor barrel is on the way. It is just possible that I'll have this here in time for this hunt. I an scouting the area throughout the summer. Grizzly opens on August 15, which is also the opening for moose. As back-up, I proved my 350 RM yesterday. I have a very good load with my 325 WSM. I am beginning to get pumped.

Rocky Mountain Rifles is building the rifle (http://rockymountainrifles.com/home.php). I'll be hunting the Burnt and the Haslert regions (7-22 in BC). I've hunted this area before and had success there. It is prime for some fine bears, and for moose and elk as well. There were six LEH draws for that particular area, so I am pleased to have succeeded.

Ahh- Corlanes-they built my 270 weatherby last year-did a terrific job. I know roughly where the Haslert is-beautiful country. Good luck to you Mike.

I actually received the authorisation for this hunt in the mail this week. The new Winchester arrived (I'll sell the barrel and the stock). I'm waiting on the Pac-Nor barrel and then we can begin assembling. I will likely have the action blueprinted as we are assembling. I need a scope for this rifle, and if I can swing it, I'll likely buy a Swarovski Z6 1.7-10 x 42 with the TDS reticle. Otherwise, I have a 3.5-10 x 40 Leupold Vari-X 3 on a spare 300 WSM, which I should probably sell in any case.

I would check out the 2.5x8 VX3 with the B&C reticle! It is a awesome scope and fits the capability of the 9.3 pretty well. I have the exact copy on my 338 and it is a great piece of glass.. Can't wait to see this rifle. It sounds like it is going to be a very classic hammer! Scotty

Scotty,

I have three of the 2.5-8 VX3 scopes. They are indeed great scopes, and I may yet turn that direction.

I should have known better! They are probably my favorite scope at this point in time. Then again, I do have a pretty heavy Leupold bias! Scotty

Consequently, I'm really enjoying my VX7. However, it is ensconced on my new 300 WSM. It looks right smart on that rifle, and I doubt that I'll swap it out. I do have a new 2.5-8 VX3 set aside for the Ruger Compact 260 when it comes home. I can pick up the European glass at a reduced rate through work, which helps make them attractive. Hey, I'm an old man and my ageing eyes need all the help they can get!

Hey Mike, I have not been on much lately as I am back working parttime.
Congrats on the tag looking forward to lots of photos.
I got draw for Muley in area that we saw a couple over 200 this was a couple of years ago so I am hoping for good genetics.

Again Congrats on the tag.

Blessings,

Dan,

You are in the right area for some big mule deer. May you have all the success as you hunt this year.

Dr Mike
No wonder you are getting excited with a hunt coming up really soon. My first one isn't until the middle of October. If and when you decide to get rid of the 3.5 X10 I would probably be in the market especially later in the year. If you sell them sperately please let me know, now my heart is pumping just thinking about hunting. Talk later

Bill,

Thanks for the offer. Canadian residents cannot import rifle scopes from the USA except through a licensed customs broker and with special permits from Homeland Security. Rifle scopes (as well as brass, bullets, gun powder, primers, rifle magazines, rifles and handguns) are all considered a threat to American security. I assume it works the same in reverse. Long story short, it would cost you more than buying a new scope from Leupold. Ah, the politics of modern life.

I haven't sent anything to another country so I had no idea. I guess scopes are a real threat to our security as well as sporting arms. didn't realize. Anyway you really got me thinking about hunting.

And if we are thinking about hunting, it prepares us for the real thing! Good luck to you this year.
