Well, I got to take the new 22-250 I built out yesterday for it's first hunt. Took the wife with me too. She likes to glass around and find hogs then range them for me. We arrived at this big long field that I have been wanting to hit for awhile. Set up on my shooting mat, and instantly had one pop up at 120 yrds. Bang..splat! First kill with new gun. A couple minutes goes by and two pop up. One at 95 yards the other at 200. Bang! the 95er is gonzo, shift bang the 200 yarder is gone two. Thw wife is yelling at me that she sees more. Both at 209 yards. Bang...Bang, both gonzo. Then another comes out at 95 yards and starts to attack the one I shot there earlier. Bang he's gone too! A couple minutes goes by and one comes out to see what all the noise is about. 253 yards. Bang...splat! Groundhog number 7 with new gun is down. 7 shots 7 kills in about fourty minutes!

Now the fun begins. My goal is to take one at five hundred yards, so we move our position to a small knoll and glass the far side of the field. One pops up at 375. I missed it twice. Low both times. i've been having so much fun I forgot my drop chart at the last location. So I sneak back and get it. the wife tells me one is up at 450 yards. I dial 6 mils bang.....dust at it's feet! It runs in it's hole, just as one pops up at 475 yards. i dial 6.5 mils and bang.....splat. New record for me at 475 yards!

Not bad for the first hunt with the new gun. Wish me luck I'm going back out tonight.

That sounds like a ton of fun. Great to see that your lady spots for you. Four hundred seventy-five yards is a great shot.

That sounds like a ton of fun SE!!! Great shooting man! Way to go! Congrats, sounds like that rifle is jamming now. Well done buddy! Scotty

SE,

Yeah I love shooting groundhogs! I got five tonight. Nothing at crazy distances. Two at 96 yards. One at 217yds, 198yds, and the last at 280 yards. I really love this gun! I do need to get to a range with at least five hundred yards to get a good drop chart made.

Heck, you're developing good field data already - out to 475 yards... Nice!

With a rangefinder and a field, you can build your own drop chart, no problem. Glad you're getting some of those wood chucks! Would you find those nasty ones on the T.V. commercial and take care of them too please?

My wife wants nothing to do with hunting anything, but enjoys informal target shooting with me, and gladly accepts the freezer full of fresh game meat every fall. As long as she doesn't have to see pretty little furry critters getting shot, she's fine with it all. Pretty special that your wife likes to share your varmint hunting!

I'll keep my eye out for those two Guy!

The wife knows what a nasty animal groundgogs are so she doesn't mind watching them blow up! I haven't pushed her to pull the trigger, she is happy just sitting in the chair glassing the field and ranging for me. That doesn't mean she can't shoot. I bought a taurus 85 38spcl for her and she shoots is quite well. She can also shoot and operate my double 410 with ease. I told her if you're gonna be married to me you better be prepared to defend the homestead!
