That's a wicked entrance wound. I'm wondering if the bullet hit a limb.

Nope, clear shot at about 25 yards on the dead run. That’s been pretty a common entrance hole size on deer at that speed per my last few I’ve shot. Even the 35 Remington has made holes that big going in. For some reason that bullet makes big holes on entrance. Those things are nastier than a ballistic tip out of my 243 on a coyote! Still 0 for 0 to drop a deer and it tracks with that bullet. Closest one was the biggest buck. I’ve shot with my 35 Rem. Still took a few steps and then tipped over.

I would assume that flat metplate has something to do with large entrance hole …or is just so soft that it comes apart before it even enters the deer.

Congrats on the deer! With the way the bullet is blowing through it just may not be that huge in expanded diameter so you get amazing penetration and good expansion, just not huge expansion that seems to help out deer down faster. Hard telling exactly but the end result looks great from here.

They work pretty well in the 35 REM TC at a 2200 start for me as well. Pretty sane load really and very accurate from that 14” gun.

Well, the best part is I never hit ribs! I will be making them in the oven in the next few days! The giant 21”inside spread 9 point buck I shot during archery season a few weeks ago I tore the ribs up pretty good. I’m boiling the tongue right now. I’ll fry it up after about 4 1/2 hours of boiling and have it for supper.
