Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

That's a wicked entrance wound. I'm wondering if the bullet hit a limb.

Nope, clear shot at about 25 yards on the dead run. That’s been pretty a common entrance hole size on deer at that speed per my last few I’ve shot. Even the 35 Remington has made holes that big going in. For some reason that bullet makes big holes on entrance. Those things are nastier than a ballistic tip out of my 243 on a coyote! Still 0 for 0 to drop a deer and it tracks with that bullet. Closest one was the biggest buck. I’ve shot with my 35 Rem. Still took a few steps and then tipped over.

I would assume that flat metplate has something to do with large entrance hole …or is just so soft that it comes apart before it even enters the deer.

Congrats on the deer! With the way the bullet is blowing through it just may not be that huge in expanded diameter so you get amazing penetration and good expansion, just not huge expansion that seems to help out deer down faster. Hard telling exactly but the end result looks great from here.

I think the flat metplates on those tips must push in a ways and then rips a big hole going in.

Well, the best part is I never hit ribs! I will be making them in the oven in the next few days! The giant 21”inside spread 9 point buck I shot during archery season a few weeks ago I tore the ribs up pretty good. I’m boiling the tongue right now. I’ll fry it up after about 4 1/2 hours of boiling and have it for supper.

I first cut off every pieces of white fat that I can see. Then wash really good. From there I put them on the bottom rack on broil. I will pat off all the melted fat, flip, and repeat every few minutes till it "looks" like all the fat melted off. Then I place the ribs in a completely sealed looking tinfoil boat. I first add a 1/2" of water to the bottom. I also rub the ribs down with a bunch of seasoning anf bbq sauce. I cook for 2 hours at 375 degrees.

It always tates AWESOME till they cool and the waxy fat I missed starts sticking to the roof of my mouth.

This time my plan is to par boil them till ALL the fat boil to the top of my pot.

Then I will still broil them for a few minutes on each side to see if I missed any "hidden fat". Then into the tinfoil boat all seasoned with bbq sauce up for 2 hours.

I have recently found an affrication to the 7600. I typically like to drive deer with a lever fun of sorts... but my cousin picked up a 7600 carbine in a 30/06 this summer at an estate sale for $450. I shot it during bear season and fell in love. I went on the hunt myself.. would like a 35 rem or 35 whelen.. everything I have found has been 1300 to 1850 haha.

If you can buy a factory chambered 35 Rem in 7600 for 1300 to 1850 you could quadruple your $$$$. Its about the rarest offering in a 7600. The 35 whelens they kept making non stop the last year beofore Rem went belly up.

They did offer the 760's in 35 rem youll see for sale once in a blue moon. My limited run 7600 carbine was offered in 04'. I dont know if it was offered before or after after 88' beside mine in 04' I believe they werent carbines in 88'.

I hear the 760's are not made as well as the 7600's. A lot of people have told me to stay away from them. Aluminum parts, lose fitting, rattles. What's your experience here?

Never owned a 760 but I know for a fact they are not built as stout as the updated 7600's.
