haveing a heck of a time trying to get 160 accubonds to shoot thinking of trying H1000 and reloader 25 the rifle is a Abolt and it realy likes 160 gr Partitions 2nds but there had to get in canada

jiggs,

RL 22 is a great powder and usually shoots very well in the 7mm Rem Mag.
If you have already tried it, try adjusting your COL.

My M70 will shoot 5 160 grain Partitions touching at 100 yds using Nosler book max charge of RL-22 and group 5 1/4" at 400 yards. My gun does not like the 160 AccuBond but loves the Partition...go figure. Last year, I dropped a muley buck in his tracks at 286 yards according to the rangefinder. Good luck! If the RL-22 doesn't make you happy, try H4831SC. H1000 and RL-25 are better suited for the 175+ weight bullets.

I don't have the charges, velocities, and accuracy right here, but H1000 showed some promise under 160gr Accubonds in a 7mmRemMag I've been working with. Preliminary groups during pressure workup were under 1.5", around 1.25" as I recall. I suspect with some tweaking of charge weight and seating depth, 1" groups are possible, which is plenty good enough for the purposes of this rifle. Velocities would not be relevant, as this rifle is slow by nature, and yet has a 26" barrel as well. It runs about 250-350fps off published velocities for 24" barrels, and has a noticeably long shoulder on fired brass. But overall, H1000 gave the best velocities of any powder, equalled only by Accurate MagPro and IMR7828 (also good choices). I can pull out my data if you'd like to hear it, but I used published data from current sources, so it wouldn't be a big surprise.

I had decent results with rl-22 in my M-77. That rifle was picky. I eyeballed H-1000 a few times but never tried it.
My son has the rifle now but I have been thinking of trying H-1000 in a 30-06 Ai out of sheer boredom.

H1000, with a 160g bullet, works well in the 7mm RM (68-70 grains) usually when barrel length is 24 inches or better. Ditto with Retumbo.

#7 - Concerning a 180g bullet in th '06 AI, H1000 did not give me the speed that RL22 does.

Good to know, Thanks.

Here is what a friend's bedded and free floated Win M70 pushfeed did at the range today at 50 yards with a 160g AB and 69g of H1000.

I have used 7828 for years in the 175 grain bullets, The amount of this powder I won't list as it is way over the books! It does close to 3000 fps and knocks the crap out of elk. I tried the same load in a newer A-bolt and will never try a load wihout working it up slowly after that ! The Browning shot all touching at 100 yds, but the cases were marked and the bolt lift was tight!. The old gun is a Ruger 77 Liberty and the chamber is longer than the new rifles. By the way 7828 was the powder Remington used in it's factory loads in the early years of the 7mm Rem. I found an old article that listed the loads Les Bowman worked up for Remington and followed that. I chrono'd some old Remington factory loads that went 3030 in 175 grain. With that kind of performance who needs the bigger 7mm's ?

All 4 powders have worked for me in different bullet weights, but rl22 always shined!

Nother vote for RL-22 w/140's or 160's from my 700 7 RM. Extremely accurate with good velocity as well.

Tried H1000 with 160's and didn't get consistent accuracy. velocity was about 100fps over RL-22 though.

Jiggs, Wholesale Sports & Cabelas (Canada) should have 160 NP & AB. I'm sure there is someone out your way that can supply them :)

I have been loading 7mm Rem. Mag. for 35 years. My favourite powder was H870, but it's gone  IMR7828 is very good & I found the new US869 is pretty good also.

bobbyrum - what specifically did you like about H870? Does is burn clean? I had an opportunity to pick up 3 pounds recently and didn't because I had no history of use with it. I favor Retumbo for my 7mm RM.

Flashole: H870 certainly doesn't burn clean. It's my understanding that the ball powders don't burn to cleanly, BUT, in my Ruger 1, 7mm Rem. Mag. & 160 NP which I used for over 35 years, it served me very well. My Ruger was long throated by a very competant gunsmith in my area. My load was 80.0 H870, Fed. 215 Mag primers & Win. brass with the 160 NP. PLEASE :( do not start with this load, work up. If I did my thing right, I could get a sub inch 3 shot group, but I learned a hard lesson with this combo. While hunting prongs in Wyoming, I made the longest kill I think I have taken to date. It was estimated at 525 yards by one of your own countrymen who witnessed it himself. I could scarcely believe it myself, although I wouldn't admit to it at the time. This occurred in 60 to 70 degree temperatures. The next time I hunted was for jumpers in Manitoba in mid November, same load. 5 rounds at a very nice, accomodating, whitetail buck at 250 yards was fruitless & most embarrasing  I didn't realize that from 60 - 70 degrees down to 25 - 30 degrees would have made that much difference, but it sure did. It was shooting 6" low & 3" left. I now always sight for every season. Please don't let this change your mind about using this powder. For me, it was No. 1 for all those years & served me very well. My best jumper kill was a 300 lb. ten point buck at just over 475 yards. My last kill with this powder was a beautiful Manitoba caribou bull that made the Manitoba Big Game book which I took at 350 yards, dead centre as it faced me. Enjoy the stuff & lament when it is gone
