Is the load data the same for these two? I looked on Hodgdon's site, and they seem to imply they are the same. And I can't find any load data anywhere that lists them both for the same bullet.

I know the 'short cut' is designed to meter better, but I'm just not sure if data for one can be sub'd for the other.

thx!

You can use the same data for both.

Loads for both of the H-4831s are the same in terms of ballistic performance. The SC version is slightly smaller grains and measures easier.

Regarding the IMR-7828 SSC, the 2012 Hodgdon manual shows the compressed loads with the 7828 SSC are specifically for that verison of the powder and the standard IMR-7828 can be used if reduced by 4%.

If your determing which to buy I just get the SC and be done with it. Manuals assume you are working up to max charge not switching between the two. I bet there is some slight differance so if switch between the two back off a say 1-2 grains to be safe. And IF there is a slight differance it may be with it to help tune a load incase your gun perfers on over the other.

I am still waiting for cooler weather to shoot may work up loads with V-100 and the 140AB in my 270win.

H4350/v-100/H4831 are all a toss up I picked the one in the middle. GOOD LUCK AND POST YOUR RESUALTS

Thanks.

Here is my 270 load with H4831SC. I'll probably stick to that, but I just want to be able to cross reference data with the H4831 if I need to.

270 win
58.0 grns H4831SC
140 grn Nos AccuBond
WRL primers
WW brass

I have used both old and the SSC version of IMR 7828 extensively in both my .340 Weatherby and my 7mm Rem Mag, with heavier bullets. I have been loading the SSC in the .340 Bee for 4 years and both versions of IMR 7828 in the 7mm Magnum since about 1994 or whenever this powder became widely available to reloaders.

The SSC version throws powder measure charges much more accurately because it is nearly square in aspect to the powder measure slide and will normally throw within +/-0.1 grains in my Lyman 55. IMR 7828 SSC is the only powder that I have found for these two calibers which will give me factory ballistics and sub-MOA groups consistantly without pressure issues or hard bolt lift. It has also been listed by Weatherby as their factory load powder in the past for the Weatherby large capacity, magnums.

My 270 loves that same load, primer brass and all.

My load only differs in that I use CCI200 primers and my OAL is much shorter at 3.235".

My rifle is a Rem 700 BDL. It has A LOT of freebore. That's as far out as I can seat the bullet and, and I'm still 0.050 off the lands.

I almost look forward to the day when I can rebarrel that thing, just to get rid of that freebore. It is a hunting rifle though, and does fine the way it is. Just annoying...

I started out seating these further out but had consistency issues. Two touching & one an inch away -type issues. I finally copied the length of Federal's Vital-Shok load using the same bullet and Eureka!
