You sure can. I can put both my M70 264WM and 338WM w/ BOSS in the case. They only have 40mm obj scopes on them so that does make a difference. Brian said he has issues but he has a larger scope on his RUM so it is a little tighter for him.

We have used Pelican cases on rifles and they have worked extremely well for us.

A few years ago, one of the hook and bullet magazines performed a torture test on 6 or 7 different hard cases and the pelican came out on top. The test involved a drop test from 6-7' (maybe higher), a run-over test, etc., to simulate what a case might go through during airport baggage handling.
I have the double rifle case and it has been well used and has performed very well.
