I was at Jays in Gaylord yesterday and they had this gem. Savage 110 300 Win Mag. story goes the first shot was a squib . The bullet was left lodged in the barrel near the end and the 2nd shot was about what you might expect. The shooter was not hurt and the action still works . Pretty amazing.

seen it happen to a couple rifles. a ruger and two brownings. I bet whoever was shooting it had a pretty sore left hand!

Yup, that'd get your attention. Whether shooting or standing nearby, the event would be startling.

it's a display model showing the rifling . it also doubles as a hat rack .

that's a good reminder of what's being messed with . 50 - 60 K PSI .

I remember seeing pictures of a barrel split open some , not as bad as this one , from the shooter forgetting to remove a laser bore sighter .

not long ago I read on one of the forums . a few guys were at the range shooting . one guy broke an extractor . so he would shoot and push his empty brass out with a cleaning rod . well he forgot to remove the cleaning rod one time and ruined things .

I remember the incident at our range with a muzzleloader. The shooter was doing quite well and cleaning the barrel after each shot. The last time he cleaned the barrel he reloaded and left the ramrod in. When he touched it off the barrel didn't split and the ramrod ended up pretty close to the target.

I saw this happen a few years ago at our local range I could not believe the noise. I was 10 benches from the guy and it really gave me a startle.
I guess that is why it is called a accident.

Blessings,
Dan

That's an interesting way to check the bore for copper fouling.

Now, that is an interesting way of stating the obvious. Good one, Bill.

Yikes!
I hope to never have such an occurrence.

A little duct tape should have it back together...

I think you're right Scotty. A little duct tape and it looks like it would go right back together.

A winchester would have forcibly pushed the first bullet out and both bullets would have made one hole in the target. :)

Seriously I hope the user wasn't hurt that bad and now he/she has a nice hat rack.

You need to pay attention when you are shooting! Not daydreaming, that would have scared the peee right out of me !!!!

We have one exactly like it at our local gun club. We use it for the hunter education class. The only difference is, it was split into two pieces not three pieces. It looks just like a crossbow, and the stock is absolutely destroyed at the forend so I'm sure somebody's hand got really messed up. We received it from the fish wildlife department who told us that snow falling into the barrel then freezing caused the blow up. An older Savage 7mm Magnum, I believe.
