Hey folks,

None of you know me but I have a Facebook friend, never met in real life face to face, that was out hunting in MO. To make a short story longer he found a Beagle pup that had been shot, or in a fight with another animal, and rescued it. The poor pup was starving, dehydrated, and appears to have some neurological issues due to it's injuries.

From what I understand, according to the Vet Clinic, my friend's not rolling in dough either. I started a donation fund to try and pay this dog's vet bills. I donated $50 today and my wife and I will kick in another $100 next week if he pulls through the night. Anyway, if anyone wants to hear the whole story, or donate a dollar or two to help pull off a Christmas Miracle, He's at this Vet Clinic:

If you want to see or hear more about this pup you can message me and I'll send you a link to my Facebook page.

PS: Mods, I hope this post is within the forum rules. If not, do what you think is necessary.

Thank you sir.
When I read this dog's story it really got to me. I just felt like I had to do something. Thank you again Fotis.

Just an update:

It appears that the little guy made it through the night. His pupils are different sizes but he's walking and eating. My friend took him home and will continue oral meds and feeding at home. At least he's getting some comfort, nd good food after having a rough go of it.

Being so close to the Holidays this story really got to me. I'm still hoping he pulls through. They don't know if it's a gunshot through the head or if he was bitten by something larger. Whatever it was Rock-E is in a good home now and will be cared for and loved. My friend only ended up paying $0.75 with the donations that came in. Thank you for that.

Give us a link to donate for the pup.

Here's a link to the Vet:

The little guy's name is Rock-E and he's now at Jim and Ronda's house. Jim was the guy that found him. I'm going to call next week and throw some money his way. He made it through the first 24 hours and Jim and Ronda took him home with oral meds but I suspect he will need more care. They don't know if he was shot or bitten by a larger animal. Reports are that he holds his head to one side and brain swelling is causing the different sized pupils but he's eating and drinking. Jim has to carry him outside to go pee and poop because he's so weak.

Thank you again Fotis.

Vince

Edit to add: He walks but only a couple of steps from what I can gather. I've been talking to Jim via PM on Facebook. If anyone wants to hook up on Facebook send me a PM here with your name and I'll send you a friend request.

fotis papadopoulos on FB. Only one in Cheyenne Wyoming

So we email the doc and send a check or what? I saw the link before.

Did they get an actual diagnosis?

No actual diagnosis.
From what I'm told, bite or gunshot the treatment is the same so it matter little which it was. Antibiotcis and prednisone. One for infection the other for brain swelling. It appears the pupils remain dialated but he is stronger today and more alert. He ate all his breakfast and is following folks with his eyes and lifting his head to watch them. Those are encouraging signs for sure!
The easiest way, the way I did it, was to call the Vet and gave them money over the phone via credit card. Right now his bill is paid up from what I understand. He will most likely need more meds though and further treatment and more in depth examination once he pulls through this ordeal and gets a little stronger. I do know that the family that rescued him is having some difficult times and are doing the best they can under the circumstances. It seems Jim was medically retired from his job as a Corrections Officer. Nobody I've known that has been retired like that has ever been rolling in dough.
I gave Jim a link to this forum in hopes that he joins as a member. I've got some pictures of the pup on my Facebook wall, as I "Shared" Jim's post and pictures. My wall is private so if you PM me here I will send you the info you need to send me a Friend request.

That is a heartfelt story. We put our Rotty to sleep over the weekend, she was 11 and showed all the scars of the great life she had. She has played in the Ocean and in the mountains near timberline. Been in the snow so deep she could not walk through it and mornings at 20 below. They are wonderful family dogs. Our newest addition is another Rotty, at 13 weeks old and 35 lbs. She will be a big girl.

Everyone of the dogs we've had over the past 40 or so years have been rescue dogs. The only one left is our Pug. Critter is so ugly he's cute. We've had mongrels, purebreds (at least we think they were) a pointer that wouldn't hunt, a a rotty the belonged to my daughter but she couldn't keep her. My son's Basset for the same readon all gone but the Pug and we still miss them all. Probably the one I still miss the most wa bandit, a littler terrier type we found at an auto wreckers. She had a broken hip and as the guy at the wrecking yard didn't want her around, I'm betting he kicked her an broke her hip. :x We had that dog for 17 years until we had to put her down due to cancer. She was the fiestiest dog I ever saw and as small as she was she'd take on the pointer for spits and grins. Definitely the alpha female. Dunno what we'll do when the Pug goes. My youngest daughter is a certified vet tech and she finds the dogs for us. The pug came because the people couldn't afford to pay it's medical bills so the clinic took the dog. Dunno what transpired but we got a call saying your new Pug is on the way. All he does is eat, sleep and snore and poop. I think if a burglar came into the house he's help them carry everything out.  Oh well, he is fun to watch.

Elkman,

You have my heartfelt condolences.
While others may come and go I know she will remain in your heart for life. We lost our three in seven weeks time, cowdog and two dalmations. They were all older and had lived full lives. When the cowdog, Shotgun, went the other two soon followed. The three we have now are rescues and I wouldn't trade them for all the tea in China.

It's fun watching how they act isn't it?

Well it appears the dog in this story, Rock-E is well on the road to recovery.
Pupils are back to equal size, he's eating, and walking on his own. From what I've been told he has one heck of a bark too. I called the Vet today and kicked a little in the kitty to help with his continuing care.
I'm just a sucker for a dog.
