All,
I have used an RCBS digital scale/powder system for years, but the scale will not hold zero anymore. I know that some people use Lyman... So, what do you recommend? Price is pretty close, so it does not matter.
thanks,

I've got the Lyman, the first ones to come out. I"ve had it for a few years and it seems to hold zero every time and works perfectly. Granted I dont use it a whole lot, only when I load a lot of shells at one time. Other then that, I dump the powder in a bowl and use a spoon with a balance beam scale for the utmost precision. I bought it vs. the RCBS because at the time, it was quite a bit cheaper. I'm sure you'll get different opinions on this though.

I have a Lyman 1200 and it works great. It is very accurate and since I installed the speed upgrade kit, very fast.

I have an RCBS 1500 powder dispenser/scale combo. One of the best investments I made for my reloading bench as far as time saved and accuracy.

The RCBS electronic case prep center is a close second in time saved and mitigates effort involved.

Let me clarify a bit.
I have the Lyman 1000xp. It's their least expensive model, and can be had for under $100.00. It will regularly vary 1/2 a grain on .223 size cases every 5 rounds. If you measure 20 in a row without recalibrating, it's not unusual to see 1 to 1.5 grains difference between the first and last charge weighed.

Everyone, I decided on the RCBS after reading the responses. i will spot check the loads against my balance to stay honest.
thanks,
Hardpan

Lyman only has a 1 year limited warrenty....

I disagree. I've had my Lyman 1200 for almost 4 years. Just last winter the keyboard quit. I sent it back for repair. Lyman replaced the keyboard, repaired the hatch on the back (that I broke), gave me a new check weight and powder pan all at no cost to me.

The 1500 Combo has a 2 year limited warranty. A quote from the 1500 instruction manual.

Corect Steve. I guess when their product is made in China, RCBS can't back the lifetime warranty of the US products they still manufacture and cover. I'm not knocking the chargemaster. For me it was money well spent and I have not have any problems. Two of my friends bought theirs after checking mine out. Both of those guys did not have as good of luck and theirs went bad within the first two years. RCBS sent them a replacement after mailing the defective ones back. As far as I know, they are back in business. Mine's about 3 years old so I hope it keeps on perculating.

My 1000 xp has a sticker on the back with the serial number that says 1 year warrenty. But since the 1200 is a higher end product, I wouldn't be supprised if they backed it with a better warrenty. Considering your good luck with their customer service, I think I will give them a call, and see what they say.

I don`t think anything electric you can buy is warrented for any real lenght of time. Most electronics come with a 90 day max warrenty, and the salesmen get rich selling additional coverage. Look at the manual for your computer, microwave, or TV.
The mechanical stuff lasts and is warrented for a long long, time. Electronic`s, wwwwwwwell, don`t drop, shake, bounce, bump or play with the knobs after the 1st month.
