OK it's all you guys fault. I broke down and bought a cheap digital scale to weigh my brass and get the H2O cap. and I don't know what the abbreviations for grains and grams are. I know this is elementary math but then that was 60yrs ago and I never had to do it since.
So here's the question does g stand for grams and gn stand for grains? The scale will read 0.01g/0.001oz/0.1gn/0.05ct. I know oz is ounce and ct is carrot but what is g and gn? :?
I weighed 3 pieces of brass with the scale set on g and her are the weights, #1 11.85g empty 16.85g filled/ #2 11.84g empty 16.82g filled/ #3 11.84g empty 16.81g filled.
different brass, #1 183.1gn empty 258.8gn filled/ #2 182.2gn empty 258.6gn filled/ #3 182.8gn empty 259.1gn filled.
The total gross weight for the g is 15.05gn divide by 3 = 5.01666667g avg. the total gross gn weight is 228.4 divide by 3 = 76.1333333gn avg.
These weights were obtained from my once fired fire formed Nosler 35 Whelen AI brass.
Well after writing this all out and looking at the Nosler reloading manual I think I answered my own question. g is for grams and gn is for grains because the H20 Cap would have to be more than 5.0166gr for the 35 AI case and 76.13grs would be the right number. So my H20 Cap is 76.13gr.
Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks?

gn is grains buddy. Empty case weights should be in the 60/80 grain range.

That scale should help out a bunch.

OK so your saying the grain capacity of the cases should be between 60/80 grains and my weight of 76.13gn is the H2O capacity of my cases?

Sounds correct to me. A 338 Win Mag and my Newton are around 90 grains H20 capacity.

Now I'll have to weigh some standard cases to see how much H20 Cap was increased by the AI reconversion.

Hey I forgot to say Thanks for the help so Thanks Buddy if you keep on pushing me I might get a degree in reloading yet after 54yrs of doing it

Rodger I am a few years behind you in reloading experience and I am hoping that I can get past grade school into high school one day .
I believe in the last few years I am regressing .
Good to be learning new things all the time, thank you for the post my friend.

Blessings,
Dan
