Final preseason check yesterday. I think she's ready to go. 240gr Hornady XTP Mag over a warm load of Accurate #9. Giving me 1700-1750fps. Should do the job on Bambi. This will be my primary weapon for modern firearm season this fall. I'm zeroed at 75 yards, but this is a 100-yard group.
That should work. I have killed a pile of deer with the 45 cal. 250 gr XTP out of a muzzle loader and a 45 Colt pistol. I would say the muzzle loader is running around 1900ish fps and if you hit shoulder bone the bullet really comes apart but through the ribs it usually exits. The pistol is running 1000 fps and all my shots have been inside 50 yards and usually if the bullet does not exit through the ribs bullet is found completely expanded just under the hide on the off side. You should get exits even through the shoulders with the 240 mag XTP because it is a tougher bullet.
