I shoot 125gr BTs in my customized Ruger Mini-30. In fact I took a rather small eight pointer this year at 158 yards with the 125 BT. The little guy ran about 30 feet and piled up. Couldn't be happier with the performance of the BT at these slower velocities.

I have tried just about every powder you can think of the the 7.62x39. From the very fact Blue Dot to the very slow 4895. It has been my experience that the slower powders like 335 work best with the heavier bullets and the faster powders like 1680 and R-7 work best with the 123-125 gainers.

My hunting load is 26.5gr of 1680 behind 125gr Nosler BT @ 2480fps or 27.5gr of N-130 behind 135gr Sierra SSP @ 2360fps. If you are looking for speed I would check out 1680, R-7 and H 4198 before I would mess with 335.

Just my opinion.

Oh, and here is a picture of the little guy.

Thanks Steve.
Having never loaded for the 7.62x39, I really appreciate the experience of someone who has. I will certainly give some faster powders a try.

Hey POP, I don't have any 1680 in the cabinet, but I see on your little cheat sheet that H110, and W296 have similar burnrates. Can you force quickload to give us some results for these two powders??

H-110 and W296 are pretty fast for the 7.62x39. If you are loading for a semi-auto they may not cycle the action.
