His First Bear

I am apologizing for not congratulating Jason on my original post. Jason you did a excellent job well done. Now go get that Griz ! I hope that you continue to enjoy the outdoors as there is no better place for life lessons with those children of yours then with their Dad in the mountains.

Blessings,
Dan

We spent last evening looking in the mountains. Jason brought two of his children (Jonah, ten, and Olivia, five). We saw whitetail, moose, elk and grouse in numerous spots. We found grizzly tracks that were about a day old, but the bear was not standing in the tracks. Another evening, and we will perhaps connect with a good bear. We were focused on an area in which we had seen a young grizzly last fall. Undoubtedly, we will be going out again this week.

I just received a text message from Jason. His ten-year-old son, Jonah, dropped a nice looking bear last evening. This one is black with a brown muzzle. I'll see if I can get some pictures to post. He used his .243 for this bear. First short took out the shoulder and then a finishing shot.

Mike that is excellent news :) please congratulate the young lad along with his father. They are really getting into this outdoor stuff!!
Looking forward to the photos if possible :)!

Blessings,
Dan

Any pictures of Jonah's bear yet? Would love to see them if available.

I'll have to get Jason to send me a picture of Jonah and his bear. They told me it was near six foot nose to tail. One of the excellent taxidermists from this area was with them when he shot it.

Sounds like a great bear. Anything around 6ft is a good bear everyday in my book.

I imagine there was some good meat that came outta that bear

I seldom shoot a bear under six feet today. I've had several that were touching seven feet, which is a fine black bear. However, my wife is asking for a fat bear. Soooooo, I'm sorta holding out for a fall bear for sure. Although, with two tags, should I see a good spring bear, I will pwn him.

God a text tonight. Jason tagged his grizzly. I'll try to get a picture for posting. It looks like a good bruin.

Very cool, looking forward to hearing all about it. Congrats to Jason :)

That's great news Mike! Can't wait to see a picture or two. Seems like the hook is really set in this fella now.
