Hit the range today!!

Well today was my spring break so I went shooting before raking the yard. I took 3 rifles. I tried 123 Customs Comp bullets out of my Grendel and it just does not care for them. I will stick with the 107 Sierras and maybe try some lighter BT if I find them.

First up was dad's new 25-06

Seated .01" off the lands

49.0gr=3.69"
50.5=0.545"
52.0=1.233"

The .545 had two touching and one out so I am going to try seating the bullet deeper. I don't even know if I want to try a different charge wait or not first.

With the 202 Sauer I tried 59.5/60.5/61.5 grains of H4350 and 165 PT

59.5=2.004
60.5=2.968
61.5=0.953

The 61.5 load is .5 below QuickLoads max but I think I am teasing the tail of the dragon as Dr.Mike would say. I had just a slightly stiff bolt lift with that load. I am going to back down a little and see how that shoots. I have shot loads from 56.0 to 61.5 now and the 61.5 has been the best. I hope I can find something near 61.0 that is safe and as accurate.

Stiff bolt lift is indeed a warning that you are tickling the dragon's tail--he can turn an bite with a blast of fire. Those are quite respectable results. I would agree that playing with seating depth on the 25-06 may just yield some spectacular results for you.

I would back it down a .5 to full grain then run the ABs through a few varying depths using .020-.030 as intervals. One of them will stick out as better than the others. A little seating in and out should find your spot.

Scotty, I am wondering if you are a little confused. The AB are for the 25-06 and showed not pressure signs. The 30-06 showed the heavy bolt lift with the 61.5 grain load and 165 Partitions. I plan on dropping back a little for the next range trip.

Yup, had them mixed up. Should have said drop the 30-06 back some and work with the seating depth.

I would try to repeat your 50.5 gr result with the 25-06 and also try 50.0 and 51.0gr to see where your sweet spot is. I use 51.0gr of RL19 in the 25-06 with the 110gr AB and it's very accurate and repeatable. Good luck!
