Hmmmmmmm...........404 Jeffries

G'Day Fella's,

FYI, the stock on the W.J.Jeffery rifle above, is Turkish Walnut.

Doh!

Wow. Those are some real nice rifles. What a pair of boomers. What do you shoot in the Jeffrey?

They are both terrific looking rifles!

I'd think the .404 has got to be useful for those HUGE buffalo running about in Australia... The ones that measure 6' tip to tip across the horns and weigh in at 2,000+ pounds...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the .404 case was the basis for the .338RUM. The .404 may be old but hasn't outlived its usefulness.

Those are nice rifles Homer. Don't guess that you are hurting for DRT power? Really pretty and I had not really had any prior exposure to the Jeffries except of course their fame in the field.

Has anyone any knowledge of the 404 being shortened to fit a standard action like the Win 458 American?

Plus it was the basis for the the ever awesome 270 and 7mm WSM's! Man. Don't leave out the really good ones!

Wow what a thread...

Homer those are some absolutley beautiful rifles right there.

Fotis you need to post pics of the Ackley.. Seriously..

Dakota Arms chambers six magnums cartridges for a redesigned .404 Jeffries case. They are the 7mm, .300, .330, .370, .404 Dakota Magnums with an additional .425 Jeffries based magnum called the .450 Dakota.

G'Day Fella's,

Thank you again for the kind comments!

SJB358, at present, I have only shot some hard cast bullets (400grn GC'ed) thru this rifle.
I have several hundred of each of www.woodleighbullets.com.au RNSP, FMJ and Hydro bullets but haven't had the time to develop loads for these!
I have been so busy over the last few years, developing and marketing my firearm sound suppressors/silencers, I just haven't had the time........
Lets hope this hard work pays off, and I will then have the time to go huntin, and so need to get these loads worked out!!!

Guy Miner, if the above hard work pays off, I would like to head north to the the "Top End" of Australia (the Northern Territory), to chase a Buff or two, and a heap of Porkers as well!

Old Trader3, the .404 Jeff is a real sleeper of a cartridge, with plenty of power and versatility for a lot of Big and or some Dangerous Game!
With a 400grn (0.423") bullet at an easy 2400+fps, it has a lot going for it!!!

Yes, and finally, a lot of manufactures (though I thing Rick Jamison may have started the current popularity?), now realise that a Rimless Belted Case (RBC), isn't the only and or best option for powerful cartridges! In many ways, the RBC only inhibits case capacity!

Doh!
