I ran across this today while trying to deceide how to spend my fatherday's day money.

http://128.192.20.53/nfsms/

It's a map of Feral swine populations updated on a regular basis.
Looks like I might have to take a trip to Kansas, or maybe Jim could invite us all out to Michigan to hunt hogs....Looks like they are poping up in a lot of new locations...

Sniper,

Feral hogs are popping up in this area of BC. Because they are considered non-game animals you don't need to purchase a tag to hunt them. I've seen both feral hogs and european swine that have escaped and are running wild in this area. I don't know how well they do in our winters, though.

I keep hoping we will get a huntable population here in Colorado. The few we do have a protected on private land. When every they stray onto the public the department of agriculture goes out and shoots them from the air, and leave the meat for the coyotes.

A_S,

Thanks for posting this. I heard of this from another site but I have yet to hear about it from any one here in MI. According to the map, there are hods in my back yard! Good reason to walk out back with my 45-70.

Tom, come on out anytime.

DrMike, don't think the hogs will have a problem with your winters. A variety of them live in the Russian forest. Feral hogs grow quite a good coat of hair and have quite a fat layer for insulation. If deer can surive in your area, hogs won't have a problem.Rick.

Rick,

I do know that you are allowed to shoot them without a tag if you come across them and have a hunting licence. I've only seen feral hogs of a couple of occasions and European swine on one occasion. On neither occasion did have a rifle with me. However, I've found areas that were rooted up by a sounder of swine when hunting.

In Mississippi we have Russian Boar, feral hogs and razor backs. Only Texas is more of a hog heaven to hunt in. Our Russian boar are in the Pass swamp and along the Pearl River and Pearlington, MS where the Pear River empties in to the gulf and they are big. We have shot them weighing 550 to 600 pounds and the last one killed six dogs in about 10 minutes. We just could not get there in time to save them.
