Been a bit busy as of late...but managed to get a week off and have my brother come down and we went hog hunting up in Okeechobee. My brother Keith, my sig. other Sirena, and myself all managed to harvest a Florida hog and it was a blast!

I was planning on using my new bow but we couldnt sneak up close enough to the hogs, and the one I took began running from us on the buggy so I had to grab my rifle. At a wee bit over an estimated 100 yards form the buggie I dropped my running hog with 2 shots from my MRC 1999. The 7mm08 hit the hog like lightning, and those 140grn Fusions...the exit wound pretty much destroyed the back half of my hogs hind quarters.

My brother and sig. other used the Vanguard in 308 shooting 165 grain AB's. I am mightily impressed with the performance of these AB's. They both shot their hogs under 50 yards and the AB's just dropped the hogs in their tracks.

Cant wait to get back out their for more, just have to find the time to do it.

Good job looks like you had a lot of fun.
Thank you for the story & photos.

Blessings,

Avjigs, we do a lot of hunting for hogs in Indian River county and over a period of time I have found that if the weight is under 200lbs. they taste great. Actually 100 is even better. We are without a doubt overrun with piggies in our area and an afternoon sit with some corn in the area usually produces positive results. Just watch where you sit. We do grow some big diamondbacks and the fireants are literally a pain in the a--.

Thanks all. It surely was a great trip, especially seeing my little brother get the biggest hog. I didnt care if I got one but seeing him harvest one and his face light up made the trip.

big rifle man: If you ever need an extra gun to take some hogs down let me know. I am about 2, 2 1/2 hours from Indian River County. Avon Park does have some good hogs too

I have a lot og Greek buddies in Florida. Maybe I can sneak in a hunt next visit!

I am already planning another hunt for some more hogs, only this time I want to take one with my new Hoyt
