I bought one of these because it reminded me of a similar tool that was used at Sierra Bullets when I worked there in the range. I had the usual hand tools used to chamfer the case mouths and bought an RCBS case prep unit (forget the official name) and it was OK but nothing spectacular, in my opinion.

This Hornady unit, on the other hand, is great. It makes processing brass fast and easy and my hands aren't cramping and aching when I'm done, either. Easily worth the $90 or so it costs.

Ron, what unit is it? I looked at their bigger unit that trims cases as well. I am still doing it the old way and would love to step up the process a little. Scotty

Scotty, it is a small electric motor unit that has a shaft with an attachment point. It will accomodate chamfering tools, primer pocket brushes, etc. It also has storage on the side for the individual tools.

I have used mine extensively with new or once fired brass and it cuts down the processing time a lot. I used to have one of the RCBS case prep units that had the multiple tool stations on it but for my use I like this one better.

Thanks Ron. It does look like a nice unit. I'm going to be checking something out shortly to assist with brass prep. That is the mundane process of loading and anything to speed it up some would be nice. Scotty

Is this the one that just came out recently with the 3 attachment points? Looks pretty cool to me....the less handwork I do in brass prep, the better. I dread case prep, but the new "Case Prep Trio" looks awesome. Put on a chamfer tool on one point, the debur on the 2nd point, and the primer pocket cleaner on the third. Should make quick work of prepping sized brass!

I too own the RCBS case prep center. I bought it because my hands cramp up real bad with hand tools. I like it, but it seems to take awhile to chamfer a case. It's almost like the tooling isn't sharp enough. I was wondering if The little Hornady tool was better. Thanks for the report!

SE,

I replaced the inside chamfer tool that came with my RCBS Case Prep Center with the VLD inside chamfer. Things move pretty quickly now, and it allows me to work with VLD bullets.

Is the replacement tool sharper then? I have a hand tool that is nice and sharp. I thought about cutting it in half, drilling/tapping each piece, and using that for replacement cutters. With the stock cutters it seems that you gotta push hard for so long that my hands cramp anyway.

I'd say you don't have a sharp tool. I never had to push on mine. However, because of the steeper angle, the VLD tool cuts quickly.

Thanks i'll have to give it a try!
