That's correct.
Ackley is basically a slight crush fit on a standard headspace gauge. One of the purposes of the original Ackley Improved was to enable people to continue to shoot the factory ammo if necessary in the same chamber. Actually that's how you can fireform Ackley brass from standard brass.
I use the bullet seating bushings in order to measure headspace. Meaning, as long as you have solid shoulder contact, you can use a .358" bushing in order to measure the amount of case growth.
I have the bushing's from .224 up to .458" and I haven't found anything that I couldn't measure yet.
