I thought I knew about what my hunting rifles weighed. I even planned which rifle to use based on the ruggedness of the country and the distance I will probably walk.
I decided to weight a new light rifle with scope and sling and compare it to a heavier one that I like. I was surprised. I then weighed them all. Here is what I found.
Rem mod. 7 20" 8 lbs.
rem xcr 338 RUM 26" 8lbs
rem xcr 7 RUM 26" 9 lbs
rem lss 375 RUM 26" + m/b 10 lbs
wby vang 257 wby 24" 10.5 lbs. Thumbhole stock
wby vang 300 wby 24" 10
wby mk 5 30-378 26+ m/b 10.75
savage 325 23" 9 lbs
ruger #1 458 lott 24" 11.25 lbs
450 Marlin xlr 24" 9.5lbs.
This shows my perceptions were way off. If I take the muzzle brake off the 30-378 it weighs only 8 oz. more than the 300 Wby Vanguard.
It's kind of a fun thing to do on a rainy day.
