How much do your rifles weigh?

I thought I knew about what my hunting rifles weighed. I even planned which rifle to use based on the ruggedness of the country and the distance I will probably walk.
I decided to weight a new light rifle with scope and sling and compare it to a heavier one that I like. I was surprised. I then weighed them all. Here is what I found.
Rem mod. 7 20" 8 lbs.
rem xcr 338 RUM 26" 8lbs
rem xcr 7 RUM 26" 9 lbs
rem lss 375 RUM 26" + m/b 10 lbs
wby vang 257 wby 24" 10.5 lbs. Thumbhole stock
wby vang 300 wby 24" 10
wby mk 5 30-378 26+ m/b 10.75
savage 325 23" 9 lbs
ruger #1 458 lott 24" 11.25 lbs
450 Marlin xlr 24" 9.5lbs.
This shows my perceptions were way off. If I take the muzzle brake off the 30-378 it weighs only 8 oz. more than the 300 Wby Vanguard.
It's kind of a fun thing to do on a rainy day.

Did you add the weight of ammo to that?
My Ruger #1 7MM mag = 10.75 lbs with scope, sling and 9 rounds on the butt.
Ruger M77MKII 300 win with scope and sling =11.0 (it has a magnaport)
Winchester model 670 30-06 with scope,sling, and 9 rounds on the butt = 8.5
I'm still bored. are we there yet?

No I didn't include ammo and I use Butler creek Alaskan magnum sling with loops for 4 cartriges. That will add a bit to the bigger calibers considering 3 in the mag and 4 on the sling. Not to mention my lucky rabbit foot. That's another 8 lbs or so. He really needs to go on a diet.

My heaviest is my M700 VLS 22-250 weighing in at 11.0 lbs Next is my M700 280 AI with a 24" #5 Hart, 9.0 lbs. The M700 LSS 338 RUM tips the scale at just under 8.5 lbs. I'm not sure of the others but they would all be 8.0 lbs or less.

You know your guns but I thought so too. That LSS 338 RUM is a jewel for sure. I wish they'd make that model again.

I used a de-liar fish scale that goes up to 25 lbs. I bought it at a garage sale for 50 cents. It's not postal accurate but it gave me a relative idea of the weights.

wish i had a usable scale

I took mine to the Parcel Packing store in town. The lady there weighs them for me, she probably thinks I am nuts.

I just picked up my daughter new Stevens model 200 7MM-08 from Pop, and it with the scope I'm going to mount on it, hits 7.5 pounds. I have to still call it my daughters because my wife might read this 8)

JD, sounds like you need to get a new gun for the "wife" soon so you keep yourself out of hot water. A big bow and a box of chocolates may help her believe it...or not.

I just bought her one! A 1895 Guide Gun in 45-70.

I thought about that and then realized she doesn't shoot a bow and I would eat all the chocolate :?

375 Ruger Alaskan w/1.5-5x20 VX111----------8 lbs 12 oz.

300 WSM Ruger Frontier w/ same scope--------7 lbs 8 oz
w/2.5-8x28 Nikon scout scope--------7 lbs 10 oz

Winchester Model 70, 270. 22" barrel Leupld vxII 8 pounds.
Winchester model 70 7mm STW with 30" barrel and bipod, 12 pounds.

I'm impressed with the light weights of most rigs. I must have too heavy a scope on some of mine. 9 pounds is good 7.5 seems to be a good light carry weight for the big mountains. I guess I could leave a water bottle or two out of my pack and make up the difference but my Ruger #1 at 11 lbs unloaded has just got to hurt after 8 or 9 miles loaded and with 4 cartriges on the sling, :( .

That was the problem with my Savage, grea rifle but I got so tired and sore from carrying it day and day out hiking around. It made it tough going out sometimes.
